WCS - Wildlife Conservation Society is hiring a Project Director for the Niassa Integrated Development & Conservation Project, based in the Niassa National Reserve.
Duties
- Design an innovative model to reconcile conservation and human development objectives over the next ten years in the Niassa National Reserve (RNN) in northern Mozambique
Requisites
- Competent project manager, ideally with specialist skills/training in development project management
- Strong organisational skills
- High level negotiation and influencing skills, and the capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels
- Strong communication skills, including an ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals (including communities, local government figures, WCS staff)
- Substantial experience of developing community engagement and development programmes in remote areas
- Ten years’ experience of working in Mozambique in community development with experience in Niassa
- Knowledge of the institutional, legal and policy framework in Mozambique is essential, and experience working with local government an advantage
- Preferably educated to degree or further degree level or have substantial equivalent experience
- Commitment to and passionate about wildlife conservation
- Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and English
- Knowledge of local languages an advantage
- Ability to use a range of IT software and packages
- Self-motivated, disciplined and comfortable living in remote location
