FHI360 is recruiting a Livelihoods Specialist, to be based in Maputo.
Duties
- Assist the Nutrition and Health Director with supervision and management of all livelihoods program activities while working together to identify issues and risks related to project implementation in a timely manner, and provide technical suggestions
- Technically supervise all program activities (including four technical officers) across four provinces including lead design, development and implementation of technical guidance
- Provide technical assistance to partner organizations on key household economic strengthening concepts and principles
- Develop and instruct partners in effective methodologies for identifying appropriate livelihood interventions for specific households, depending on the needs and resources of those households; train/mentor these partners in principles and standards for good implementation of these interventions
- Equip partners with skills and resources to assess outcomes, as well as strengths and weaknesses of livelihood activities
- Provide day-to-day management of the project’s livelihood activities
- Manage the work of any research firms and/or consultants hired by the project to assist with livelihoods or household economic strengthening approaches. This includes building capacity of local implementing partners to implement quality and successful work
- Collaborate with other technical specialists and stakeholders beyond the project to ensure coordination of materials and communication message strategies and avoid gaps and overlaps
- Ensure that livelihoods and household economic strengthening materials are pre-tested, proved effective and used efficiently and by the correct target group
- Help develop, maintain, and follow the indicators set in the workplan for livelihoods/economic strengthening
- Work with M&E Advisor to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of these activities.
- Contribute to regular quarterly and annual reports to the client
- Document project results and impacts in various forms, including media stories, lessons learned, case studies, client satisfaction, etc
- Other duties as assigned
Requisites
- Experience and demonstrated results in livelihoods/household economic strengthening activities that lead to improved nutrition outcomes
- Knowledge of and experience with the design, management and implementation of nutrition, agriculture and livelihoods programs
- Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the socio-economic and political situation in Mozambique and targeted communication to stimulate behavior change
- Ability to organize systems to monitor results
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese
- Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontractors, consultants, and recipients of assistance
- Ability to travel as needed
- A Master’s Degree in agriculture, rural development, Community Development, International Development or related fields
- At least 6 years of experience in projects of similar or related nature, size, and complexity, with national or local governments, NGOs, or donors; with preference given to a candidate who has actually worked in devolved health settings
- Familiarity and understanding of USAID policies and procedures (highly preferred), or those of other donors, donor-funded projects, community-based projects, or corporate social responsibility projects
- Proven abilities to set priorities, to multi-task, and to work collaboratively across technical disciplines
- Possess outstanding professional reputation and have strong demonstrated interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills
- Willingness to travel within the country as needed
- Oral and written English language required
