US Embassy is recruiting a Deputy Director for Program, to be based in Maputo.
Duties
- The U.S. Embassy in Maputo is seeking one individual for the position of Public Health Specialist to serve as the Deputy Director for Program at the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) – Global HIV/AIDS Program Mozambique
- The incumbent serves as senior public health technical advisor to the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Mozambique office for HIV/AIDS activities
- Job holder shares oversight responsibilities for the development and implementation of HIV/AIDS (and related) technical program activities to support the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program, and has the primary responsibility for liaising with host government and implementing partners to foster a collaborative environment to ensure that CDC-funded projects align with host government priorities at national and provincial level
- Duties and responsibilities include program planning, development, and technical assistance to CDC, USG staff, and local partners to meet host government priorities
- Incumbent works closely with the Director to ensure that CDC activities contribute to measurable results that are in accordance with PEPFAR, CDC, and host government strategic objectives and goals. Requisites
- Medical Degree, PhD or equivalent is required
- Five years progressively responsible senior public health experience in public health service-delivery projects within an HIV/AIDS or related fields is required; an additional two years managerial responsibility with multiple staffing reporting is required
- Level IV (fluency – speaking/reading/writing) in English and Portuguese is required
- Job holder must possess comprehensive knowledge of the programs, policies, regulations, protocols and ethical considerations applicable to the development and administration of national or international HIV/AIDS and other disease public health programs
- Job holder must have an excellent understanding of the public health system in Mozambique and a good working knowledge of U.S. Government public health programs and strategies, especially those related to PEPFAR
- A detailed working knowledge of other host government and international public health systems is required
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to work with all levels of staff in a team setting to accomplish program goals are required
- A high level of oral and written communications skills is required
- Good working knowledge of computer software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases is required. Regular demand for keyboarding with good working speed and accuracy for use in preparation of reporting documentation is required
- A facility for making detailed mathematical computations is required
