Aldelia is recruiting an Environmental Superintendent (m/f), to be based in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
Duties
- Ensure that the Environmental and Rehabilitation Officers effectively implement
- Environmental Monitoring practices, initiatives, and communications to facilitate awareness and reinforce the required behavior
- Ensure that all Environmental Monitoring data and information is available on the EHS Internal Drive
- Drive an Environmentally conscious culture within the company by continually sharing EHS information in relation to the application thereof in the work environment through briefings, workshops, conferences, and continuous communications for the company to attain high accreditation ratings
- Ensure that Environmental Monitoring training and education programmes, as well as new employee inductions are implemented as planned
- Liaise with the Community Relations Department (CSR) regarding environmental education within the local community on key issues identified
- Ensure that an effective incident investigation process to identify causes and to determine how such incidents might be prevented in the future is in place
- Identify investigation method and process to follow based on the nature of noncompliance and incidents, i.e., the process to follow related to:
- Radioactive safety
- General waste
- Hazardous waste
- Domestic waste
- Investigate sources of pollution, determine their effects on the environment, and to develop methods of pollution control
- Consolidate and integrate investigation findings
- Communicate findings to EHS Manager
- Ensure that MICOA is notified of all environmental incidents at the company
- Consolidate findings from Environmental monitoring, non-compliance, and incident investigations, determine impact, patterns, and trends, and anticipate future problems
- Identify best fit mitigating actions
- Develop mitigating plans in collaboration with entire Department that are practical, focused and dedicated to rectifying non-compliances, mitigate risks, and to prevent reoccurrences and future problems
- Collaborate with Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors to implement mitigating plans
- Take appropriate action to prevent and manage risks
- Monitor and follow-up on mitigating plans, processes and measures implemented
- Budget by weighing up costs, risks and potential returns on expenditure related to workforce, materials, equipment, infrastructure, and technology
- Keep within budget constrains for an annual period and minimise expenditure
- Effectively manage contractor/ service provider relationships, and budgets associated with special projects
- Effectively utilise existing assets to increase operational efficiencies
- Monitor planned vs. actual, analyze results and report on variances as well as profitability
Requisites
- Degree in Environmental Management or equivalent
- At least 4 years experience of which at least 5 years supervisory capacity in environmental impact assessment, due diligence, environmental permitting and consents and sustainability appraisal
- Training in NORM (Natural Occurring Radioactive Pollution Material)
- Environmental Systems Auditing Accreditation or experienced
