Helen Keller International is recruiting a Project Coordinator, to be based in Sofala, Mozambique
Duties
Position Summary
  • The Project Coordinator will lead and oversee the implementation of the project, ensuring that all activities across the agriculture, nutrition, livelihood, and GBV components are delivered on time, within scope, and budget. This role involves coordinating with local stakeholders, managing project staff, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and fostering a learning environment that promotes continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, project management, and technical skills, coupled with experience in integrated development programs
Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership and Management
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all project activities in alignment with project goals and donor expectations
  • Develop and manage project work plans, budgets, and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor regulations
  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary project team, fostering collaboration and accountability
Technical Oversight
  • Provide guidance and oversight across all components of the project: Climate-Smart Agriculture, Nutrition, Livelihoods, and GBV
  • Work closely with technical staff to ensure activities are evidence-based, culturally relevant, and responsive to community needs
  • Promote the integration of cross-cutting themes such as gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local government authorities, community leaders, and implementing partners
  • Represent Helen Keller International in coordination meetings and other forums at the district and provincial levels
  • Advocate for the project’s objectives and ensure alignment with local development priorities
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
  • Collaborate with the M&E Officer to track progress against project indicators, identify challenges, and adapt strategies as needed
  • Review and approve project reports, ensuring timely submission to donors and stakeholders
  • Document and share lessons learned, success stories, and best practices to inform future programming
Financial and Resource Management
  • Manage project budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and in compliance with donor requirements
  • Oversee procurement and logistics to ensure timely delivery of goods and services
  • Mitigate financial and operational risks through robust internal controls
Team Leadership and Capacity Building
  • Supervise and mentor project staff, promoting professional growth and high performance
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure alignment and effective communication
  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for project staff and local stakeholders
Requisites
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Nutrition, Public Health, Development Studies, or a related field. Master’s degree is an advantage
  • Experience:
  • At least 5-7 years of experience managing multi-sectoral development projects
  • Proven track record in implementing agriculture, nutrition, livelihoods, or GBV-related programs
  • Experience working with international organizations and donor-funded projects (e.g., USAID, EU, UN)
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong project management skills, including work plan development, budgeting, and reporting
  • Knowledge of Climate-Smart Agriculture, nutrition-sensitive programming, and GBV prevention/response
  • Proficiency in data analysis and use of M&E tools
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex environments
  • Language: Fluency in Portuguese is required. Knowledge of English and local languages spoken in Sofala Province is an advantage
Other Requirements
  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites within Nhamatanda and Muanza districts
  • Knowledge of local context and familiarity with Nhamatanda and Muanza Districts is an advantage
