The U.S. Embassy in Maputo is seeking one individual for the position of Cultural Affairs Assistant.
Duties
- Under the supervision of the CAO, this position assists in the management of PAS cultural programs (including music, theater, sports, and arts programs) and outreach programs (including English Club and other English language-based outreach programming), including serving as the lead coordinator of the U.S. Speaker Program and Embassy-wide volunteer "Meet America" speaker program at Mozambican educational institutions as well as the American Cultural Center Martin Luther King Jr.
- Serves as lead coordinator for post's alumni grants competition and as post’s primary coordinator of educational advising information for Mozambicans wishing to study in the U.S. Serves as back-up in scheduling and implementing post’s active exchange and professional development programs (e.g., the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, Humphrey Program, International Visitor Leadership Programs, and others)
- Assists in developing PAS-supported programs according to MRR priorities related to achieving U.S. policy objectives in Mozambique
- Also serves as back-up Exchanges coordinator, which entails coordinating open, transparent and competitive nomination processes for the U.S. Mission, including publicizing competitions throughout Mozambique
Requisites
- University Degree is required
- 2-3 years of Administrative and/or Professional experience is required
- Level IV in English is required
- Level I reading/speaking in Portuguese is required
- An in-depth knowledge of all the various functions, contacts, context, and activities within the job holder's area of work (As a result of this, knowledge may be required to give advice and/or be able to handle some non-standard situations/problems)
- A good understanding of the operational environment as it relates to their area of activity
- Job holder will tend to be involved in decisions relating to their particular area of activity which will require them to apply their knowledge of the operational environment
- Possesses some rudimentary skills / techniques / knowledge in a specialist area
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Must be comfortable with PC and all standard MS applications
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain necessary contacts
