Swisscontact is recruiting an Agriculture Finance Specialist (m/f), to be based in Nampula, Mozambique.
Description
  • The Agribusiness Finance Specialist has the responsibility of the development and implementation of business cases whereby climate smart agriculture interventions are integrated into the value chain from an agronomic, financial and inclusion perspective. S/he will identify and support business cases for co-investment opportunities and broker access to finance and investment of the businesses. S/he will coordinate and work with financial institutional partners to scale climate smart investments. The agribusiness expert will take on delegated responsibility of in-country programme management from the overall programme manager. S/he serves as the principal liaison between financial institutions, including banks, microfinance institutions, impact investors, and other financial service providers
Duties
  • Improve access to finance through advising and assisting financial service providers to design and implement new financial services and products for producers, suppliers, and off-takers in agriculture
  • Promote access to finance for women entrepreneurs
  • Support agribusinesses to develop the business cases
  • Establish appraisal criteria for a co-investment fund, design milestone based payment scheme and contribute to the assessment of the business cases
  • Coordinate with the fund manager the planning and disbursement of grant funds
  • Support the implementation and roll-out of business cases
  • Monitor and report the performance of the business cases as per the set milestones
  • Advise financial institutions on climate smart business investments to leverage climate finance money
  • Facilitate new digital/mobile finance solutions for specific value chain financing needs
  • Engage with partner financial institutions to facilitate additional capital investment into specific value chains, building the capacity of financial institutions, and developing or improving financial services and expand service provision to underserved entities
  • Work with international consultants and local project staff involved in expanding access to finance to ensure quality and timeliness of pertinent deliverables under the program
  • Support agribusiness platforms to promote, advise and jointly agree on climate proofing value chains, policy recommendations and climate smart investments
Requisites
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, accounting, finance or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum five years of experience working in agriculture financing, microfinance development, banking institutions, rural finance, and/or agro insurance in Mozambique, ideally with some management responsibility
  • Experience developing and/or marketing inclusive financial products, including loans, insurance, savings, payment, etc.
  • Knowledge of the prioritized commodities preferably at global level and in East Africa
  • Experience in value chain development and agribusiness finance, preferable experience with climate finance
  • Ability and demonstrated experience of designing and appraising business cases
  • Experience in female and youth entrepreneurship programs
  • Strong agribusiness relationship management experience and focus with the ability to stimulate trust and confidence with clients and investors including managing various stakeholders
  • Understanding of climate change risk management and inclusion of smallholder producers into the supply chain
  • Excellent organizing, negotiation, influencing and advisory/coaching skills
