Associate Investment Officer

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is implementing the Private Sector Window (PSW) of the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), a multilateral mechanism to assist in the implementation of pledges made by the G20 governments to scale-up support to help poor countries reduce poverty and improve rural livelihoods and food security. The PSW is being funded by the contributions from governments and their agencies, and provides innovative financing aimed at increasing the commercial potential of small and medium-sized agri-businesses and farmers by connecting them with local, national, and global value chains.

The Global Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) Department has a vacancy for an Associate Investment Officer to support the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP). The position will be based in Maputo, Mozambique, and will have dual reporting lines to HEAD of GAFSP and MAS Africa Manager.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate passion to agribusiness and inclusive development in Africa, strong project finance and credit skills, and be a team player.

Duties
  • Support investment processing function and, with time, lead investment transactions eligible for GAFSP support, as well as select mainstream agribusiness investments in Mozambique
  • Investment processing includes but is not limited to performing extensive client and project due diligence, creating financial models and preparing documentation for IFC internal processing and approvals, investment structuring and negotiations
  • Develop a strong pipeline of quality investment and advisory services opportunities for MAS Agribusiness projects eligible for GAFSP support
  • Coordinate closely with social, environmental, corporate governance, advisory services and IBRD colleagues in order to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact
  • Supervise committed portfolio investments
  • Contribute to effective communication and awareness raising among IFC staff, management, and clients of GAFSP funding opportunities by developing presentations, case studies on notable deals, undertaking field office and client promotional visits, etc
  • Provide input to the GAFSP steering committee on IFC’s approach to the delivery of GAFSP objectives as related to private sector engagement in agribusiness and food security issues
  • Help to update MAS Agribusiness Strategy: map opportunities by sector and coordinate input to regional strategies, as needed so they remain responsive to business and client needs

Requisites
  • MBA or a Master's degree in Finance with 4 or more years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (eg. working knowledge of agribusiness and food security issues a big plus)
  • Strong modeling, financial analysis and credit skills
  • Demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity)
  • Good ‘deal sense’; analytical skills & business judgment
  • Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds
  • Team player with ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • Highly motivated and self-driven
  • Genuine commitment to sustainable development and adherence to the highest ethical standards
  • Willingness to relocate to Mozambique and to travel frequently in the region
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Portuguese a must
