Description
  • UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, expanding both in terms of product and geographic portfolio. In the context of our Expansion to the Mozambican market, we are looking for an experienced Finance Manager who is passionate about our mission and motivated by the challenge to help UpEnergy set up operations in a new key market. The Finance Manager will be responsible for setting up and managing financial reporting and accounting systems. The candidate will compile and manage financial statements, ensure timely payments of invoices and bills, and lead relevant audit processes. They will also provide support in inventory management and reconciliation
  • This role will not only require someone who is both very organized and capable of managing financial statements, but also excited to provide leadership on strategic questions regarding the balance sheet, budget and cost saving opportunities
  • The Data Analyst and Carbon Officer will also have the opportunity to actively participate in and take ownership over key operational projects to advance UpEnergy’s business in Mozambique including, but not limited to, manufacturing, supply chain management, distribution, sales and marketing, retail partnerships, as well as the piloting and launch of new products
  • This role will report to the Country Manager. The role is based in Maputo, Mozambique
  • Start date & Location: The role is based in Maputo, Mozambique. We are looking for the right candidate to start as soon as possible, but we are flexible. Particularly under the current COVID pandemic, we put safety first while continuing to bring impact to our community and the environment. We appreciate your flexibility too in confirming a start date
Duties
Sales Admin
  • Participate in fieldwork activities like monitoring, onsite visits KPTs and other surveys
  • Designing and maintain a filing system for hard and soft copies of documents at office and Dropbox respectively
  • Consolidation and reconciliation weekly sales by comparing downloaded data against scanned receipts
  • Support sales team by training team on, installing and troubleshooting the digital data collection platforms for sales
  • Ensuring the delivery, sorting, and distribution of hardcopy sales receipts to the responsible data team members. i.e Scanning team, D-receipts and Partner receipts
  • Fieldwork activities like audits, onsite visits and surveys, picture activities and other related activities
  • Other administrative support which may include but not limited handling the office customer care line and controlling issuing of receipt books to the sales team
Data Analysis
  • Collect, analyze, evaluate and report data in order to increase sales productivity
  • Review sales records and trends and evaluate performance measured against sales quotas
  • Assist management in developing and reviewing the sales budget and rolling sales forecast including sales to budget variance analysis
  • Work with management to provide customized reporting that will inform management recommendations
  • Cross train team members on how to effectively use data analysis to inform operational strategy
  • Guide management in setting company strategy through rigorous Sales analysis
  • Work with management to develop a reporting structure that identifies costs by function, process, product and initiative. These reports will be used to measure ROI
  • Support marketing research to determine end-user demand which will inform product sourcing decisions and price setting
  • Analyze results from in-field willingness to pay and product acceptability tests
  • Support marketing function with data analysis where required
  • Using automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources of the UpEnergy databases and take appropriate action
  • Flagging corrupted data and fixing coding errors and related problems to a standardized format needed by the department
  • Performing analysis to assess quality of data and draw insight from verification reports and any data that comes in on Google forms or other online verification processes
  • Using statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets that could be helpful for the diagnosis and prediction of business decisions
  • Preparing final analysis reports for the stakeholders to understand the data-analysis steps, enabling them to take important decisions based on various facts and trends Cross train team members on how to effectively use data analysis to inform operational strategy
Carbon
  • Assist management in preparation for annual carbon verifications
  • Support the carbon process by reconciling data and the available documentation
  • Coordinate all verification activities including field visits and due diligence audits in the field
  • Coordinate baseline studies and the execution of all related activities
  • Assist in preparation for annual carbon audit
  • Contribute to streamlining carbon data process
  • Oversee execution of carbon documentation requirements/updates (Sales receipt format, Serialization of stove tags, Baseline scenario)
  • Completion of Baseline assessment survey with the help of local enumerators for a country
  • Lead and complete of Baseline Fuel usage (KPT) for a country with the help of local enumerators and prepare a comprehensive report
  • Lead and conduct local stakeholder consultation meetings and preparation of stakeholder report for a country
  • Point of contact and coordination with an entity hired to carry out baseline assessment and Baseline fuel usage (KPT)
  • Build and train a team of carbon enumerators for a country who can work part-time and make 3 full-time hires from the trained enumerator when the monthly sales reach 1,000 per month
  • Monitoring a project with the help of local enumerators and support during DOE/Auditor verification
Requisites
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree and/or MBA
  • 3+ years of experience in similar role
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting and informing management
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience as a trusted resource as a member of – or providing support to – a leadership team
  • Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with the development of energy or carbon projects
  • An understanding of customers and business culture in Mozambique
