WWF is recruiting a Data Management Assistant, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) has been working in Mozambique since 2001 and is currently implementing its second country strategy (2020-2030), whose goal is for WWF MCO to influence and ensure sound management and responsible stewardship and use of Mozambique’s unique biodiversity for the benefit of present and future generations. The strategy, underpinned by the fact that the wellbeing and prosperity of Mozambicans is dependent on nature and that, today, the rate of loss of this life-support system demands urgent and effective action, is anchored around three conservation pillars, namely: i) inclusive conservation of habitats and species; ii) sustainable and equitable livelihoods; and iii) greening the footprint of economic development. The strategy will focus on six priority landscapes and seascapes, namely, Lake Niassa & Lichinga Plateau, Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, Quirimbas Biosphere Reserve, Zambezi Delta, Primeiras & Segunda Environmental Protected Area, and Inhambane seascape
  • WWF Mozambique ambition under Planning Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMEAL) is to improve flow of data from projects, programs to the Integrated Country Strategy. Therefore, seeks to recruit a data management assistant to be responsible for supporting management of data from conservation and operations of WWF Mozambique from project, programs to the Integrated Country Strategy, as part of the PMEAL unit
  • The role requires an enthusiastic, effective, proactive and very well-organized person who is able to work with minimal supervision. He/she will:
  • Support data entry, data validation, sharing, reporting, and maintaining data systems
  • Ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of data processing and storage
  • In collaboration with the PMEAL and Digital Transformation units, support reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of projects, programs and the Integrated Country Strategy
  • Develop the capacity of field program/project teams and implementing partners on data collection, entry, analytics, visualization and reporting
Duties
Data governance
  • Support the implementation of Strategy and Impact Policy, as well as data retention policy
  • Support developing and implementing the office data management procedures to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and standards
  • Support defining data ownership and stewardship roles within the organization
Systems management and data security
  • Oversee the maintenance and upgrading of data management systems and tools
  • Work with IT and other departments to resolve technical issues related to data systems
  • Implement data security measures to protect sensitive information and enforce compliance with data protocols
  • Monitor data access and ensure that appropriate security controls are in place
Data collection and entry
  • Assist in accurately inputting data into databases and other systems
  • Regularly update and maintain data records, ensuring consistency and accuracy
Data Quality, Integrity and Integration
  • Monitor data quality and accuracy and implement data validation and cleansing processes
  • Address data discrepancies and ensures data consistency across systems
  • Perform regular data audits and create automated reports on data quality metrics
  • Oversee the integration of data from various sources and systems
  • Manage data migration projects and ensure successful data transfer with minimal disruptions
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and databases
Data Analysis, Visualization and Reporting
  • Support the automation of data analysis processes
  • Generate reports and dashboards to support decision-making
  • Analyze data trends and provide insights to improve organizational performance
Training and Support
  • Provide training and support to staff on data management best practices and tools
  • Develop and deliver educational materials and workshops on data handling and usage
  • Perform other relevant duties as requested by the Supervisor
Requisites
  • Bachelor’s degree in information management, Information Technology, Data Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Certified Information Systems Auditor) are an advantage
  • Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., SQL, Oracle), data modeling tools, and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Strong ability to analyze complex data sets and generate actionable insights
  • Work-related formal courses on M&E, participatory planning, data management, Power BI, GIS, etc. will be an added advantage
  • Required Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 years proven professional experience as a data manager, M&E officer in the field of nature conservation, protected areas, natural resources management, agriculture or other development activities in national/international cooperation agency, government or private sector
  • Experience in use of statistical and GIS related packages and software such as SPSS, Stata, Mapinfo, ArcGIS, Idrisi or any open-source GIS
  • Basic understanding of integrated conservation-development programs (gender, conservation agriculture, community savings, natural resource management, fisheries, marine and costal biology, protected areas management, etc.)
  • Good use of Microsoft software including Power BI, Advanced Excel, Access, etc.
  • Excellent Portuguese and English communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, including with local communities, government agencies, and the scientific community
  • Be a dynamic and proactive person and show commitment with conservation and development work in remote locations in Mozambique
  • Be very well organized, paying attention to details and having strong analytical skills
  • Be a good team player, having experience working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Have passion and commitment with community field work in natural resource conservation and sustainable livelihood development
  • Meticulous attention to data accuracy and consistency
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address data-related issues effectively
