US Embassy is recruiting a Driver, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Duties
- Serves as chauffeur for Peace Corps staff, Trainees, Volunteers and authorized visitors to meetings and related activities to destinations within Mozambique as authorized
- Performs preventative maintenance checks on vehicles and regular maintenance tasks such as changing of oils, filters, and belts
- Frequently performs more sophisticated repair work on vehicle , where it is cost effective and possible for Peace Corps to do this work in-house
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies for vehicular maintenance and repair and informs to the GSM
- Verifies that vehicles are fueled, serviced, washed and kept in good operating condition
- Completes and submits to the GSM for review vehicles maintenance and repair records as required
- Obtains information on all vehicular accidents to produce reports including recommended repairs
- Performs messenger, delivery, and pick-up duties for materials, supplies and equipment as directed
- Verifies that vehicles garage/parking areas are clean and free from potentially dirty or dangerous items
- Performs maintenance checks on Generator
- Prepare and send to GSM the Fuel & Vehicle Maintenance Report on Monthly basis
- Performs maintenance and repair – including construction jobs – on PCV housing throughout Mozambique, upon request or as needed during PCV visits. Makes regular trips to series of PCV houses with specific construction/maintenance/repair duties to perform, including, for example, installation of bars, roof repair, electrical repair, and many other jobs
- Trips include carrying of considerable advances for purchases of materials and supplies for planned and emergency work
- Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the GSO or APCD/Administration, including back-up support for other staff members, based in the main office in Maputo
- Conduct other tasks as requested by the Country Director or DMO
- Safety and Security Duties
- Operates Peace Corps vehicles safely at all times
- Immediately communicates Volunteer safety and security concerns and issues to the Safety and Security Manager (SSM) and CD
- Knowledgeable and supportive of Peace Corps safety and security policies and procedures, including the timely reporting of suspicious incidents, persons or articles
Requisites
- Completion of Primary Education
- Reading, writing, and speaking Portuguese
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience for the job
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills
- Some knowledge of computer applications (MS Word and Excel)
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Must have a driver’s license and be able to safely drive USG owned vehicles
- Mozambican residency and work permit
- Ability to successfully pass a security clearance through the U.S. Embassy
- Knowledge of generator maintenance will be an added advantage
- Good Knowledge of written and spoken English
- Completion of Secondary Education
- Experience driving in rural areas
