Environmental Control Officer

The project is based on a full time contract for 18 months in Mozambique for the ROMPCO Pipeline Project. WorleyParsons will be responsible for accommodation and requirements to assist in performing the required duties. The ECO will be responsible to see that the contractor implements the approved Environmental Management Plan (EMP). The ECO shall be suitably qualified to perform the necessary tasks. The ECO shall be appointed at a level of seniority that he / she can interact effectively with the contractor.

Duties
  • Conduct regular environmental audits as per the frequency specified in the EMP or at condition imposed in an environmental authorization to check adherence to the mitigation measures of the EMP and submit to an engineer
  • Compile a monthly environmental report based on the findings of the audit and submit copies to the engineer. Attend weekly site meetings attended by the contractor, the engineer and the invitees and present the findings of the audits
  • Liaise as needed with the contractor through the engineer on implementation and compliance issues
  • Review the QA / QC record for environmental incidents such as spills, intact, transgressions, including nature and extent of the incident cause, responsibility and corrective and preventative actions taken. Ensure that all incidents are reported to the engineer. A summary of recorded incidents shall be included in the monthly audit reports.
  • Review the contractor’s complaints register in which all socially and environmentally related complaints and any actions taken are recorded
  • Monitor the QA / QC’s register which keeps a record of all incidents which occur on the site during construction. These include: (i) Health and Safety incidents; (2) incidents involving hazardous material stored on site; and (3) non-compliance incidents
  • Monitor, measure and update the sustainability register with key sustainable project development criteria
Requirements
  • A relevant environmental qualification
  • At least 5 years experience in a similar position
  • Sound working knowledge of the Environmental / Water / Waste Regulations
  • Good communication skills
  • Own transport essential
