IRD – International Relief & Development is recruiting a Gender Expert to be based in Mozambique.
Duties
- Provide strategic development and implementation of a gender program on an upcoming Feed the Future agribusiness proposal in Southern Africa (this program will focus on lessening the gender gap)
- Collaborate with all local stakeholders and implementing partners to ensure that all activities address gender
- Supervise technical staff
- Work closely with the COP and DCOP on setting program priorities and directions based on the donor’s requirements for gender in the project
- Work with M&E staff to design and implement a plan to track data and results related to gender within USAID’s M&E requirements
- Provide technical leadership to include gender in all aspects of the project in the development of the project strategic plan, work plan, and program monitoring
- Promote gender access and equality through the identification of outreach activities and cultivation of gender-driven community dialogue appropriate to the socio-cultural context
- Ensure that gender outreach meets the criteria identified by USAID
- Provide gender input into rapid start up activities as needed
- Monitor and prepare donor reports and project reports on program implementation and progress
- Conduct regular reporting to the COP/DCOP and program and technical staff of successes, challenges, and lessons learned in implementation related to areas of technical expertise
- Other duties as assigned
Requisites
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience designing, implementing, and assessing agricultural and rural projects with a gender perspective
- 5 years of experience implementing agribusiness development programs from a gender perspective
- Proven track-record of successful program design and implementation in societies with low gender and development indicators
- Demonstrated experience developing/designing gender-related programming
- Experience in Southern Africa, international development programs
- Strong oral and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Fluency in English and Portuguese
- Demonstrated experience in USAID or other USG funded projects
- Extensive (5 or more years) experience in Southern Africa, in international development programs
- Extensive (5 or more years) experience in programs that address gender issues in Mozambique
- Must be innovative and resourceful in creating an awareness of new initiatives which respond to the needs and practices of project beneficiaries
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, take direction, assume leadership, and make rational decisions while working remotely
- Ability to train and facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of individuals with various skills sets and work styles
- High motivation, initiative, and adaptability
- An ability to work successfully in remote and challenging settings with limited resources
- Available for travel (up to 25%)
