Johanniter International Assistance is recruiting a GFFO Project Manager (m/f), to be based in Pemba, Mozambique.
Description
- Overall job purpose: Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Programs Manager, the GFFO Project Manager (PM) will be responsible for the overall coordination, successful implementation, as well as technical representation, security and overall quality of the project. This includes the management of the project team, budget, logistical processes, activity implementation, as well as monitoring on indicator perfor-mance and beneficiary feedback
- The PM will manage a multi-annual project funded by the German government, under which JIA provides high quality humanitarian aid to conflict affected populations in Cabo Delgado in the areas of health, nutrition and WASH
Duties
Development and Management of the project
- Manages the project implementation in accordance with the rules
and standards of the donor and JIA standards
- Ensures that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring,
logistics, finance administration, etc.)
- Is responsible for modifying and continuing project planning and
the project budget in close coordination with the Finance Team and
the SPM
- Establishes good working relationships with donors and other
stakeholders in-country for emergency, rehabilitation and
development programs in coordination with the SPM and HoM
- Reports to the SPM on the progress of the project and all risks
associated with the project work
- Prepares and implements a preparedness plan for disasters and
potential crises on the basis of country specific situation
- Leads the implementation of beneficiary feedback mechanisms in
close coordination with the PMEAL Team and assures the
incorporation of lessons learnt into the further project imple-
mentation and design
- Provides technical support in the process of project development
and management to partners and assures the quality of their
contributions
- Is responsible for timely and concise internal and donor reporting
Leadership
- Manages staff according to JIA leadership principles, staff policies
and JIA strategy
- Supports the recruitment of staff
- Responsible for project office management
- Ensures implementation of JIA policies and their adaptation to
local conditions
- Is responsible for the strict implementation, application and
adherence to Johanniter Security Rules, Guidelines and SOPs in the
Project region
Representation, Collaboration and Networking
- Represents JIA towards project relevant stakeholders (such as
partners, government representatives, other relief actors, etc.)
- Expands JIAs network with relevant stakeholders from civil society,
government and academia within the context of the project
- Marketing, public relations and local image management
- Accompanies visiting donors and JIA Head Office staff
journalists/or appoints adequate representation
- Other:
- Contributes to the country development and strategies, actively
participates in strategic discussions and keeps himself informed
about the overall organizational processes
- Actively participates in the country management meetings, as well
as strategic development and planning
- Fulfilment of any other tasks which are assigned by the
management and correspond in general with the character of this
position
Requisites
- Technical college degree or bachelor’s degree; Master degree
would be an asset
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing humanitarian and
development projects
- Proven leadership experience
- Knowledge of at least one of the projects thematic areas (Nutrition,
Health, WASH)
- Full working proficiency in English and Portuguese (written as well
as spoken)
- Strong reporting and writing skills
- Previous experience working with an NGO or UN-organization is a
strong asset
- Structured and independent work mode
- Knowledge on the humanitarian principles

- Strong abilities to lead and orient a team
- Able to perform well under pressure and with tight deadlines
- Previous experience leading distributions
- Previous experience conducting needs assessments
- Previous experience organizing community feedback sessions
