Information Communication Technology Assistant (ICT) – Database Manager

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Mozambique wishes to recruit qualified and experienced Mozambican nationals for the role of Information Communication Technology Assistant (ICT) – Database Manager, to be based in Pemba.

Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and technical supervision of the Head of ICT, the Information Communication Technology Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Maintain inventory of material and/or database of information, such as, computer related equipment, communications equipment, electrical equipment, training material, etc
  • Maintain systems and equipment by carrying out specialized and routine tasks, as back up of data, monitor network and systems, servers and peripherals, running systems diagnostics, patch management and system optimization, removing viruses and bad data, etc
  • Provide support to Partners and Distribution Points which will be using electronic devices for registration and food distribution
  • Assist in the deployment/dissemination of standard material, such as, WFP Policies, computer hardware and/or software, applications, programs, directories, telephony, web content, publications, database content, training material including installations of the electronic systems in the Distribution Points
  • Administer user access to systems and project databases, monitor system and application usage
  • Assist in solving problems by monitoring inboxes and responding to queries, identifying and rectifying or forwarding issues to the appropriate person
  • Maintain web pages, electronic documents, statistical databases; maintain Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) applications and procedures and provide support to IKM users
  • Provide back up support and resolve a variety of problems and/or assist in resolution of problems to ICT/Electronic system users for the project
  • Assisting in training and support of users (WFP and Partner) of technology and systems, such as such as Audio/Videoconference, electronic registration systems, Electronic post distribution monitoring, databases, registries, networks, etc
  • Regular reporting on ICT Issues and identifying areas of improving the user access to ICT at sub office level
  • Perform other related duties as required
Requisites
Education
  • Three-year Post Secondary school Diploma in Information of Technology, Mathematics; or closely related fields
  • University degree in Accounting or related fields would be an asset
Experience
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in information technology or telecommunications or ICT management, such as, Application development, WAN/LAN networking, operating systems or IT support. Some experience in electronic device configuration, GIS system, web design email, Database management or similar fields
  • Full knowledge of computer applications (MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point) and some knowledge of database packages. Experience in handling of web-based management systems
  • Excellent communications skills, including good drafting ability in both English and Portuguese

  • Sound judgment; ability to extract, interpret, analyze and format data and to resolve operational problems
  • Ability to work with minimum of supervision; and to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work with accuracy under time constraints and pressure
  • Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with staff members and others and to have a high sense of confidentiality, accountability, initiative and good judgment
  • Training and user support skills
Language
  • Excellent command of English and Portuguese is required
  • A working knowledge of Macua or Makonde is required
