WWF is recruiting an Internal Audit & Risk Audit Officer (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • To ensure that the procedures and control processes are in place; lead to a high performing WWF MCO Programme with efficient operating systems, professional and skilled staff, and strong financial resources, delivering conservation impact on issues and in places that are key for WWF’s Network Initiatives and other global conservation priorities
  • Ensure that internal accounting and finance operations in MCO comply with WWF standards and donor obligations and respect MCO legislation
Duties
  • Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Risk & Audit Officer responsibilities will be as follows:
  • Develop an annual risk based internal audit plan and perform Internal audits and special investigations
  • Advises on opportunities for improvement as well as potential risks for WWF MCO Office
  • Ensures WWF MCO Risk Management Register is updated and risks mitigation is in place
  • Participate in the formulation of management response to external audits
  • Collaborate in maintaining internal control, anti-fraud and conflict of interest systems inside and outside the organization
  • Provide training to finance and non-finance staff on rules, policies, and procedures
  • Responsible for monitoring of all organization, financial, management risk and project risk
  • Responsible for internal audit to WWF Mozambique project partners
  • Carries out periodic evaluations of WWF Mozambique financial reports, systems, procedures, and internal controls
  • Contribute to the WWF Mozambique risk management plan
  • Facilitate the integrity, adequacy and efficiency of the organization’s internal controls and physical, accounting, financial and operational information
  • Deter fraud and encourage good practice and compliance with the organization’s internal rules
  • Check and disclose situations of conflicts of interest in schedules and achievements within the organization
  • Carry out examinations, including compliance tests and substantive tests, to obtain sufficient evidence to support your findings and recommendations
  • Responsible to ensure that WWF MCO in in compliance with all the statutory requirements (Tax, Pension, Government legislation etc.)
  • Ensures that all WWF Mozambique offices properly monitor and fulfil contractual obligations
  • Obtain, analyze, interpret and document physical, accounting, financial and operational information to support the results of your work
  • Ensure the proper implementation of internal control procedures, and make possible suggestions for their improvements
  • Participate in the processes of preparation and updating of the rules/tools of the administration. Follow-up to the actions taken on the recommendations presented in the previous reports
  • Track the implementation of all audit findings on regular basis
  • Liaising with the Finance Manager to ensure that the Office Audit Log is up to date
  • Draw up internal audit reports with clear conclusions, findings and recommendations, indicating the results of approved cost-based analyses
  • Identify and propose partner training programs in the field of administration and financial and regular follow-up
  • Other tasks:
  • Do other activities that may be indicated by the superior, which are within his reach, and in common agreement

  • Contribute to consolidating and improving team spirit
Program audits
  • In coordination with the supervisor ensures that external and internal audits are properly organized, and that there is proper and timely follow-up of audit recommendations
  • Liaise with WWF-I internal and other external auditors on audit related issues
  • Facilitate auditors in performing on-site visits
  • Assist in providing management responses to audit reports and timely implements the audit recommendations
  • Undertake any other official duties as assigned by the Country office management
Requisites
  • Higher Education in Accounting, such as Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Commerce, Business Administration or Accounting and Finance
  • At least 3 years of experience as Internal Controller or Auditor in a reputable organization
  • Experience in financial management of donor-funded projects and knowledge of international accounting standards
  • Demonstrated skills in developing, managing, and implementing Audit Plans in large and complex organizations
  • Knowledge of the provisions of applicable national laws
  • Familiarity with the various institutional requirements for possible legal compliance
  • Knowledge of NGO accounting, tender process and donor requirements
  • Written and spoken domain Portuguese/English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Practical knowledge of accounting software; and very good IT Skills
  • Required Behavioural Skills:
  • Good interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, discretion and impartiality) are essential for this position
  • Strong team-player with ability to work in virtual teams
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals within a broad range of cultural environments, especially in the African context
  • High level of good organizational and administrative skills with an ability to work well under pressure

  • Internal: Interacts and works closely on a regular basis with the Country office SMT, all staff in the project finance unit and Administration staff in all WWF MCO offices as well coordinating and interacts as appropriate with members of WWF ROA, WWF International and other WWF offices
  • External: Interacts as required with other stakeholders, donors, external auditors & consultants in collaboration with the Country office SMT as appropriate
