Description
- Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Livelihoods and Nutrition Officer is responsible for providing technical expertise on livelihoods interventions ,nutrition and other nutrition related functions to improve the livelihoods, with a particular focus on group awareness sessions about breastfeeding, complementary feeding, prevention of malnutrition, child care practices, and child development, together with individual counselling and support for those with difficulties and special vulnerabilities, and the development of strategies to promote and protect breastfeeding in health facilities. , while ensuring proper coordination and collaboration with municipalities, other authorities and beneficiaries. The position requires extensive field work and movement in Cabo Delgado

Duties
Strategy and Vision
- Actively supports the values of Johanniter and shapes programme work according to these values
Together with the Senior Programs Manager and Project Manager, ensures the development and implementation of the Johanniter International Assistance strategy in her/his area of responsibility
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the global strategy of Johanniter International Assistance
Livelihoods
- Responsible for the implementation of all Livelihoods and Nutrition activities on field level
- Actively contributes to the technical design of all Livelihoods and Nutrition activities
- Provides technical guidance on income generation, market analysis, as well as malnutrition prevention and treatment activities
- Review and develops beneficiary selection criteria with local authorities, and community members to identify project beneficiaries according to JIA’s and food insecure vulnerability and target criteria
- Compiles Livelihoods and Nutrition related project data and produces regular reports and updates
- Supports the integration and communication with other sectors: WASH, Health & Nutrition activities
- Ensures good working relationship with local leaders and other stake holders
- Produces weekly and quarterly activity work plans
- Provides technical support in the sensitization of targeted beneficiaries on livelihood and nutrition related materials and develops technical training modules
- Support economic livelihoods and capacity building activities for partner communities
- Identify and design interventions that link the restoration of essential services with livelihood opportunities for community stability
- Ensure that the market potential in the region is assessed with an aim of improving on the existing systems and water management practices for increased crop production and farm productivity
- Promote development of local policies that support improved food and nutrition habits for infants, young children, youth and women
- Attend focused group discussions and other related Community level meeting to identify constraints to success of nutrition interventions
- Contribute to data collection, nutrition surveys, campaigns, food distributions and monitoring of beneficiary trends
- Support engagement of communities in improved nutrition practice including promotion of traditional food security structures
Nutrition
- Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of Nutrition activities based on National Protocols and Guidelines at the district/field level
- Coordinate and follow up nutrition supplies requests, tracking, deliveries and consumption reports
- Build capacity of health workers, community health workers on nutrition CMAM and IYCF
- Support in overall supervision of the nutrition projects sites and teams at the district/field level
- Promote development of local policies that support improved food and nutrition habits for infants, young children, youth and women
- Attend focused group discussions and other related Community level meeting to identify constraints to success of nutrition interventions
- Contribute to data collection, nutrition surveys, campaigns, food distributions and monitoring of beneficiary trends
- Support engagement of communities in improved nutrition practice including promotion of traditional food security structures
Monitoring and Reporting
- Responsible for monitoring the impact of the project, promote learning, support decision making and documentation of best practices
- Produces weekly and monthly activities progress reports (quantities and qualitative)
- Compiles Livelihoods and Nutrition related project data and produces regular reports and updates
- Provides inputs and assists in writing donor reports
- Responsible for generating lessons learned and success stories as per JIA’s procedures
- Implements action plan for quality monitoring
Capacity building
- Develops partner communities and organizations capacities for creating economic livelihoods and capacity building activities for partner communities and partner organizations
- Build up the capacity of project team on skill based innovative sustainable livelihood community models, as well as nutrition practices
Protection
- Contributes to an inclusive work environment
- Actively promotes and fosters the rights and social positioning of vulnerable groups (women, children, elderly, persons with disability) and ensures their active participation in projects
- Mobilizing and making communities aware on project objectives, outputs and activities and MEAL systems and Child Safeguarding Policies
Requisites
- Person Specification
- Professional Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, Bachelors’ degree in Nursing/Midwife, BA in Agriculture Economics, a diploma in Public Health with experience in Nutrition, or relevant degree
- Minimum 3 years of proven work experience in similar position
- Experience of working in the field of Health and Nutrition and communication within an INGO in Mozambique
- Experience with sustainable livelihood and food security programs
- Demonstrate technical knowledge and experience in nutrition CMAM
- Knowledgeable of the national protocols for acute malnutrition management
- Experience in sensitization in nutrition at community level
- Experience in implementation of social and behaviour change and Community engagement activities
- Knowledge about infant and young child feeding, child growth, nutrition during the life cycle, acute malnutrition, chronic undernutrition, child development and micronutrient deficiencies. Additional
- knowledge and abilities about the alignment of nutrition with maternal and child health, mental health, and food security and livelihoods programs
- Full commitment to humanitarian principles, gender equality, and the rights of displaced persons and protection of children
- Proven previous experience working with displaced people
- Skills:
- Familiarity with Livelihoods and Nutrition programming
- Professional technical skill desired training in Agriculture
- Proactive and problem-solving attitude
- Willingness to work in areas receiving displaced people in Cabo Delgado
- Good planning and analytical skills
- Good leadership and supervisor skills
- Good report writing skills
- Excellent computer skills and competency in Microsoft Office
- Detail-oriented individual with good multi-tasking abilities and good communication skills, both oral and written
- Fluent in Portuguese. Dominion Knowledge of the local languages desired, Intermediate level of English is an advantage asset

Remuneration
- According to JIA Mozambique Salary Grid, ranging from 100.000,00 MZN to 120.000,00 MZN gross depending on education and work experience
