World Food Programme is recruiting a Nutritionist (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • WFP is increasingly a leader in the nutrition sector, as co-chair of the Nutrition Partner’s Forum, co-convener of the SUN Business Network, and chair of the UNAIDS HIV and Emergencies technical working group. It is imperative that WFP maintain an appropriate level of engagement with requisite government, UN, civil society, donor, and private sector stakeholders and actively cultivate new partnerships. This enhance engagement at the policy and programme level requires a senior level national officer to adequately support WFP’s portfolio of nutrition activities with Nutrition Partner’s Forum and the SUN Business Network (SBN)
  • Nutrition-sensitive programming is designed to address some of the underlying and basic determinants of malnutrition-sensitive, can also be used as a platform to scale-up nutrition-specific interventions and, as such, address the immediate determinates of malnutrition. Due to its expertise in food security and nutrition, WFP is well-positioned to lead in nutrition-sensitive programming and support government to achieve SDG 2 in collaboration with the Technical Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition (SETSAN)
  • The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking to fill the position of Nutritionist - FT/NOC at WFP Mozambique, based in Maputo. The Nutritionist (NOC) position in the Country Office, reporting to the Programme Policy Officer-Nutrition Adviser
Duties
  • Provide technical advice on nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive programme and policy issues including assessment and analysis, the choice of objectives, activities, transfer modalities and commodity choice for nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive programme in line with WFP standards and processes
  • Support the strengthening of national nutrition initiatives, including the development of national government policies related to nutrition as well as nutrition strategies, action plans, protocols and guidelines in line with the SUN Movement and international guidance and current evidence
  • Work with nutrition unit team in procurement, logistics, finance, other programme units and other divisions to ensure effective design and delivery of WFP nutrition programming
  • Provide support for operational partnerships, including inter-agency collaboration, to ensure a strong multi-sectorial response to nutrition in both emergency and non-emergency settings
  • Prepare accurate and timely reporting and learning, contributing to a knowledge base that informs decision making of WFP and other stakeholders
  • Design, conduct and communicate the nutrition situation clearly and effectively to nutrition stakeholders
  • Represent WFP at national, regional and international meetings to contribute in technical discussions, exchange experiences, advocate for nutrition interventions and identify areas of potential collaboration
  • Build capacity of WFP collaborators, partners and national governments to prepare for and respond to nutrition problems
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of WFP activities, provide technical analysis, and interpretation
  • Guide and supervise more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them on more complex analysis and queries
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations on contingency planning, risk analysis and early warning related to nutrition risks
  • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs
  • Other as required
Requisites
  • Experience working with governments on developing nutrition policies and/or implementing a nutrition programme (within food security or health)
  • Experience conducting nutritional assessments, analysed data and drafted recommendations for programme
  • Experience working in multiple countries
  • Experience working in both emergencies and development context
  • Advanced University degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine or other relevant field
  • For International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: French, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language: Portuguese
  • For National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different
