The U.S. Embassy Maputo is recruiting a PAS Communications and Outreach Intern (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • The Public Affairs Section (PAS) is looking for a creative, energetic intern eager to promote Embassy Maputo programs and exchanges. In this role, you will join the PAS team to use outreach tools to advance the mission of the U.S. Embassy, which is to help support Mozambicans to be healthier, safer, more prosperous, and more democratic
  • You will also assist in expanding the Embassy’s English language programming and support exchange program participants preparing to study in the United Sates
  • Open to: All qualified Mozambican students who meet the education requirements below
  • Work hours: Part-time; 20 hours/week
  • Salary: Unpaid Internship
  • Length of hire: January 9, 2023 – July 7, 2023 (6 months)
Duties
  • Propose social media content for Embassy platforms, to include graphics, video, and/or text for use on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Compile success stories from the Mission for use in speeches and other communications products
  • Take stock photos in Maputo for immediate or future public diplomacy use
  • Support the planning and coordination of monthly “Meet America” sessions for English-speakers and English learners
  • Help publicize and implement thematic English-language initiatives, such as debate or film club
  • Support exchange participant and Study in the USA recruitment and selection
  • Assist in coordinating pre-departure orientation sessions for outbound exchange program participants
  • Provide administrative and logistical support as needed
Requisites
  • Language: English and Portuguese (Write, Speak, Listen): Intermediate skills. (This will be tested)
  • Computer: Microsoft Office; event planning/organization
  • Education: At least two years of university level study completed in the Communications filed, preferably in Journalism or Marketing/Public Relations
  • Experience: Experience using social media for organizations; proficiency with graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite/Canva)
