- The U.S. Embassy Maputo is recruiting one PAS Outreach and Communications Intern
- The Public Affairs Section (PAS) is looking for a creative and energetic intern eager to promote
Embassy Maputo programs and support strategic communications during a dynamic time
following elections in both Mozambique and the U.S. In this role, you will have hands-on
experience in learn about the public engagement initiatives and messaging opportunities to
inform Mozambicans on American culture and values. Your work will contribute to the daily
efforts in deploying outreach campaigns, expanding access to educational opportunities, and
cultivating economic empowerment through English language programming.
- OPEN TO: All qualified Mozambican students who meet the education requirements below
- WORK HOURS: Part-time; 20 hours/week
- SALARY: Paid Internship
- LENGTH OF HIRE: (6 months)
Duties
- Compile and send top stories in Mozambican press to U.S. Embassy staff by 10am
Monday – Thursday for the PAS daily news round up, the Maputo Media Daily. Send out
timely and useful media clips or social media posts to U.S. Embassy staff on
WhatsApp/Teams
- Oversee outreach campaigns and events at the American Corner
- Support exchange participant and educational outreach recruitment and selection,
including organizing interviews, scheduling language proficiency tests, and aiding in
travel logistics
- Monitor distribution e-mail inboxes for press, exchanges, and the American Cultural
Center to respond to inquiries in a timely manner
- Develop and implement U.S. government-funded alumni engagement opportunities
Requisites
- Language: English and Portuguese (Write, Read, Speak, Listen): Intermediate skills. (This will
be tested)
- Computer: Microsoft Office; Familiarity with Social Media Outlets (X, FB, IG)
- Education: At least two years of university level study completed in the Communications field,
preferably in Journalism or Marketing/Public Relations
- Experience: Experience using social media for organizations; proficiency with graphic design
software (Adobe Creative Suite and Canva); event planning/organization and project
management
