EGPAF has developed and implemented a pediatric clinical mentoring program in the general Hospital of Machava. The program is designed to develop knowledge and skills of Medical Doctors and Technicians in caring for HIV positive children through two-week clinical attachments.
The Pediatric Clinical Advisor will support and further develop the pediatric clinical mentoring program in General Hospital of Machava and facilitate pediatric attachment for Medical Doctors and Tecnicos de Medicina.
Responsibilities
- Clinical mentoring during two-week clinical attachments of Medical Doctors, Técnicos de Medicina and other relevant health staff
- Conduct didactic pediatric HIV related training sessions for mentees and other HG Machava health staff
- Ensure evaluation of results of the Pediatric Clinical Mentoring program
- Submit evaluation report on each participant to be shared with their supervisor
- Conduct pre- and post test of participants, documenting results
- Develop tool to assess skills during post-attachment (6 and 12 mos) monitoring visit by EGPAF clinical advisor.
- Analysis of program data of originating site
- Provide distance support for pediatric care and treatment to health staff (email; calls)
- Contribute to operations research and program evaluations where appropriate
- Ensure update and further development of pediatric clinical mentoring curriculum and training materials
- Development and actualization of standard operating procedures for the provision of HIV clinical care at HG Machava care and treatment services, including for family-centered approach, issues regarding patient flow, tracking defaulters, and referral systems
- Submit a quarterly monthly report on mentoring and technical assistance activities
Qualifications
- Pediatrician, with extensive clinical experience and excellent knowledge of care and treatment of HIV infected children in resource poor settings
- Ability to build capacity of health staff
- Experience as clinical mentor
- Skills in monitoring and evaluation
- Data management and analysis
- Skills in quality of care assessment and assurance tools
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English
- Energetic, independent, self-motivated
