The Government of Canada is seeking a Political / Economic Officer for the Canadian High Commission in Maputo.
Duties
- Carries out research and prepares reports on key political and economic developments relevant to Canadian interests in Mozambique, Malawi and Swaziland
- Manages work related to the funding of initiatives in countries of accreditation
- Maintains and expands network of contacts with Mozambican government departments, media and civil society in order to facilitate work of the High Commission
- Has responsibility within the political section for providing written translation and oral interpretation as required for lengthy Embassy correspondence, meetings and visits
- Serves as quality control for official correspondence in Portuguese
- Performs other duties as required
Requisites
- Fluency in Portuguese and English (oral and written)
- Fluency in French will be considered an asset
- Able to obtain and retain security clearance
- Meet the medical requirements set by the employer
- Master level degree from a recognized university in a related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related area (international relations, legal affairs, economics, etc.)
- Knowledge of the political and economic environment in Mozambique, Malawi and Swaziland
- Knowledge of the global political and economic environment
- Able to travel
- Effective interactive communication – oral and written
- Effective interpersonal relations
- Proactive, result oriented, adaptable and flexible
- Ability to engage in research and apply analytical thinking
- Eligible to work in Mozambique
