Feed the Future Value Chain is recruiting a Portfolio Manager, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique (with 50% travel requirement).
Description
  • Overview: The Portfolio Manager (PM) will lead the formulation of FTF Inova’s vision for and the implementation of a portfolio of partnerships, aimed at facilitating the establishment of innovative products, services, business strategies and practices among the Mozambican agriculture private sector. Operating in a environment where business innovation is challenging and risky, the PM will need to be able to catalyze interest around a realistic vision for change, based on lateral thinking, flexibility, resilience and a strong capacity to learn from what works and what doesn’t. To achieve this, FTF Inova’s PMs are entrepreneurial, self-starters, well-organized, communicative, and possess strong leadership skills. For this specific position, the candidate is also expected to demonstrate business savviness, a capacity to formulate and articulate strategic thinking, as well as an interest in technology/ICT solutions, agricultural finance (particularly financial technology), and an understanding of what drives decision making and human behavior
  • The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of partnerships with selected private sector companies, with whom he will be in charge of co-creating successful innovations that lead to improved competitiveness and market expansion. The PM will also be responsible for driving learning and adapting across his/her portfolio, through the collection and analysis of data to measure performance and impact. To achieve these tasks, the PM will manage and be supported by a number of short-term consultants. He or she will be supported by the program’s Value Chain Manager (based in Nampula) and the Chief of Party (based in Maputo)
  • Supervisor: The Portfolio Manager will report to the Value Chain Manager and the Chief of Party
Duties
  • Contribute to the development of the vision and strategy of FTF Inova and his/her portfolio of interventions
  • Support the FTF Inova team to define the overall program vision, approach and activities, and foster innovations that can strengthen the agriculture sector
  • Lead the vision and learning for specific areas of improvement in the agriculture market system, as assigned to by the Chief of Party. Examples are: input distribution systems, agricultural supply chains, marketing strategy for agricultural inputs, IT solutions for evidence-based management, etc.
  • Identify, design, and oversee the implementation of partnerships with FTF Inova’s partners, including plans and deals, and due diligence when needed
  • Systematically gather information and evidence on the partnership’s performance and the project’s impact under the guidance of the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist
  • Contribute to the preparation of field inputs to the quarterly and annual reports as required by the program
  • Contribute to establishing a team culture grounded in collaboration, openness, and learning
Requisites
  • Demonstrated experience and success in driving innovation and entrepreneurial ventures
  • Self-starter and well-organized, driven by objectives, that are achieved with perseverance and resilience
  • Communicative, open to exchange and learn and to support and lean on team peers for the achievement of shared goals
  • Demonstrated capacity to form a vision, and lead peers and partners to it Business savviness demonstrated by past experience in successfully advising or running a business in Mozambique
  • Demonstrated capacity to formulate and articulate innovative strategies
  • A Master-level degree in either Business, Economics, Agriculture, Finance or a related field
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in one or more of the following: behavioral change, agricultural finance, marketing strategy and farming
  • Demonstrated interest in technology/ICT solutions for agriculture and retail finance
  • Interested in self-improvement
  • IT skills beyond the basic use of MS Office
