The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Mozambique wishes to recruit qualified and experienced Mozambican nationals for the role of Programme Assistant, to be based in Chimoio.

Duties

Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Sub-Office, the Programme Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Prepare project documents with relevant district counterparts and other participating partners
  • Organize project planning missions, meetings and briefing sessions to identify, analyze problems and recommend project
  • Assess project performance including utilization of resources and achievement of planned targets
  • Monitor, update and track data related to project issues, commodity pipelines and financial allotment status report, informing the relevant division accordingly, ensure accuracy of data related to the above
  • Analyze and prepare projections for food commodities and non-food items to ensure timely call forward and/or local procurement
  • Maintain records on programme activities, from formulation stage through completion, by extracting relevant information from reports, project committees, budget records and other documentation, make information available for country briefs, country profiles, and other related purposes; ensure project cycle deadlines are met
  • Analyze contract terms and conditions, and correct any observed discrepancies between contract rates and invoices amounts
  • Carry out advocacy and information related tasks for project/programme activities such as making interventions and presentations in meetings, workshops, seminars, missions, etc
  • Prepare status and progress reports by providing information and background material for use in discussions and briefing sessions
  • Provide guidance on –the-job training and assistance to support staff
  • Evaluate, develop, recommended procedures. Participates in discussions on new/revised procedures and practices, interprets and assess the impact of changes and makes recommendations on follow up actions
  • Participate in district needs assessment assignments
  • Effective and timely planning and reporting on different WFP food or cash related activities in the province
  • Effective supervision of the Food Monitors by scheduling quarterly monitoring plan, guidance and support
  • Carry on field visits to view implementation of activities, record findings recommend and share with supervisor
  • Schedule CP monthly meetings and regular capacity building on food or cash management and reporting
  • Represent WFP at government meetings (INGC - CTGC, DPMAS-INAS, District government, etc.) and make presentations and interventions
  • Attend the district planning sessions (PES) and ensure integration of WFP food assistance into emergency and development plans
  • Provide to new Food Monitors and other Program staff adequate briefs and on-the-job training
  • Organize and support external mission’s visits including donors
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Requisites
Education
  • University degree in Agriculture, Sociology, Geography, Nutrition, Agricultural Economics, Food security, Environment, Public Health, Community Development
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Programme Management, Survey tools and techniques, Extension work and Emergency preparedness and Response with NGOs, international organizations or bilateral development agencies
  • Proven community mobilization skills
  • Full knowledge of computer applications (MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point) and some knowledge of database packages. Experience in handling of web-based management systems
Language
  • Excellent command of English and Portuguese is required
  • A working knowledge of Chitwe is required
