The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Mozambique wishes to recruit qualified and experienced Mozambican nationals for the role of Programme Officer (Nutrition and Food Security), to be based in Chimoio.
Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office, the overall supervision of the Deputy Country Director and in collaboration with the Head of the Provincial Health Directorate of Manica Province (DPS-Manica), the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Develop, jointly with DPS, the workplan of the activities and monitor its implementation
- Prepare and negotiate the Letter/Memorandum of Understanding with the DPS
- Contribute to the set up, management, and M&E of the SBCC program in Manica Province
- Contribute to the set up, management, and M&E of the Research in Manica Province
- Ensure proper training and guidance of the program assistants and DPS-M nutritionists about their objectives, expected results, deliverables, monitoring and reporting
- Provide training, technical assistance and guidance to WFP staff, implementing partners and DPS at provincial and district level as required by the SBCC program, and the research
- Provide relevant trainings and program implementation follow to DPS-M on the revised “Pacote Nutricional Basico” and the Nutritional Surveillance System
- Ensure that assessment, monitoring and reporting (including data statistics) on the SBCC program, the research and other DPS-M nutrition programs in correctly undertaken at district level and revised and discussed at provincial level
- Conduct regular monitoring visits to the districts to supervise and monitor the SBCC program, the research, and the implementation of the “Pacote Nutricional Basico” and the Nutrition Surveillance System
- Conduct regular meetings with the implementing partners of the SBCC program (CBO’s and the company responsible for the radio platform), of the research and DPS/SDSMAS to discuss the progress and resolve the challenges in the implementation
- Contribute to planning and reporting of the nutritious supplements and cash and vouchers distributions and contribute to the programmatic corrections in the implementation of the research
- Assist with the coordination of WFP MDG-1c – supported health and nutrition activities at provincial and district level with government, UN agencies and NGOs
- Guide program assistants and DPS nutritionists at district level to develop and maintain partnerships and coordinate relevant activities to the prevention of stunting with district level stakeholders in line with the provincial coordination mechanism
- Produce quarterly reports on the implementation status and progress of the activities and report indicators for the MDG-1c as required
Requisites
Education
- Masters degree or equivalent in Nutrition, Public Health or Medicine
Experience
- At least five years of relevant experience in Nutrition, Food Security, Public Health, or related fields
- Proven experience in coordination and management of development programs which includes both health centre facilities and community settings
- Experience in health systems strengthening work, and in particular in capacity building and coaching in the areas of M&E, planning, management and leadership
- Knowledge of MISAU maternal and child health policies and programs
- Previous experience in working at district or provincial and/or MISAU would be a real asset
- Previous work experience in monitoring & evaluation is an advantage
- Experience in capacity building and training is an asset
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of Nutrition and Food Security
- Good understanding of community dynamics and community health
- Knowledge of strategic communication and SBCC methods/theories
- Advanced computers skills and experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard software packages and systems
- General knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures governing project administration and management

Language
- Excellent command of English and Portuguese is required
- A working knowledge of Chitwe is required
