Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition is recruiting a Project Manager, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
- The Project Manager will primarily be responsible for the implementation of activities at both national and subnational level including the deliverables by and performance of contracted partners (Save the Children, PSI and others) as well as provide strategic support to the Mozambique Country Director on issues pertaining to this project or other MIYCN related issues
- It is also expected that the project manager will work very closely with both the Mozambique Government, in particular MISAU, and other civil society organizations to achieve impact through home fortification practice as part of the promotion of optimal infant and young child feeding practices
Duties
- Accountable for the overall leadership of the Mozambique MIYCN projects with primary project management, reporting technical and financial documentation responsibilities for all GAIN, donor and Government of Mozambique requirements
- Collaborates with the Country Director, MIYCN Director and the wider MIYCN team on program strategy, communications and implementation of all project components including effective performance management of sub-contractors and technical consultants
- Responsible for timely convening, facilitation and associated documentation of project governance, guidance and strategic recommendations on the project, providing effective leadership for decisions and actions with both the MIYCN Global program and wider country team
- Collaborates with Monitoring, Learning and Research (MLR) team to ensure that alignment between implementation and both monitoring and evaluation efforts
- Responsible for overall reporting of the program progress reports, quarterly budget and accurate, timely management of the funds, with support from the MIYCN Global Program
- Visits the field regularly to ensure that project progress is on track and risk mitigation plan is up to date
- Collaborates with the Country Director and wider country team as well as the MIYCN Global Program to develop key government partnerships and facilitate key stakeholder alignment
- Collaborates with Country Director, MIYCN Director and associated teams to mobilize civil society, community networks and align with the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement
- With support from the MIYCN Global Program team, facilitates the development of communication materials, social marketing activities and communication campaigns in collaboration with partners to drive product compliance
- Collaborates with partners to educate and influence key opinion leaders, medical professionals and Associations on the importance of home fortification products
- Reports directly to Country Director, Mozambique
- GAIN Mozambique country team
- Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) Global Program team Finance, HR, IT and Legal colleagues in GAIN HQ
- Government, project partners and other key external stakeholders
Requisites
- Proven leadership and management capabilities
- Experience in implementing Nutrition and/or maternal and child health interventions
- Excellent project management capabilities
- Strong communication and advocacy skills
- High level of professionalism and integrity
- Clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment, expert problem solving, and creativity
- Computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills
Extensive experience in a project management position, including solid experience as a project manager within international development
- Demonstrated success in working within multi-disciplinary teams in challenging program environments
- Understanding of nutrition and/or public health issues in Mozambique highly desirable
- Experience of implementing nutrition project highly desirable
- Experience of working with and managing partners
- Experience of working in a public/private partnership environment desirable
- Master’s Degree in health, food science, nutrition, business administration, or a suitable equivalent is required or equivalent work experience
- Diploma or equivalent certification in project management highly desirable
- Excellent written and verbal English and fluent in Portuguese A willingness and ability to travel in challenging environments
- Eligibility to live and work in Mozambique - this is a local role and GAIN does not sponsor work permits for this post
