SDO Moçambique is recruiting a Project Accountant (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
- The Project Accountant will ensure and undertake accounting and financial records of the Project and assist the Financial Manager and National Project Coordinator in decision making
Duties
- Prepare checks and other requisitions for funds/payment documentation to collect the authorized signatures
- Support the Finance Manager in expenditure planning
- Support the Finance Manager in preparing the annual budget and financial plan of activities
- Process project payments on e-SISTAFE
- Generate the data for disbursements
- Generate preliminary reports from both the project accounting software and e-SISTAFE
- Ensure that all payments and the related documentation are according to the Financier and Government standards
- Prepare payments to be processed through bank transfers in cooperation with the Finance Manager
- Provide Accounting data from the accounting software and e-SISTAFE whenever requested by the Finance Manager or Project Coordinator
- Participate in the inventory of fixed assets (furniture and appliances)
- Sort and register accountings in compliance with the Chart of accounts in a timely manner
- Check the tax payments and other fees
- Insert accounting data in the financial system software
- Perform preliminary analysis and reconciliations of accounts periodically
- Maintain the filing of all accounting and financial documentation
- Replace the Finance Manager in his/her absence
- Perform other duties assigned by the Finance Manager
- Assure that bank accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis
- Prepare requests for withdrawal of funds to be submitted to the Bank
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager in the preparation of periodic financial reports and annual financial statements
- Ensure the fulfillment of administrative and financial procedures acceptable to the Financier and the Government
- Perform all other relevant tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator
Requisites
- Minimum of Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- A master's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics will be considered an advantage
- In addition, a nationally or internationally recognized accounting certification will be considered an advantage
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, financial management and/or auditing in the public sector or private sector
- Demonstrable knowledge of public financial management and applicable systems in Mozambique
- Demonstrable experience with e-SISTAFE shall be deemed an advantage
- Demonstrable experience in financial management and accounting in the context of projects financed by multilateral development banks, UN organizations, bilateral institutions and other international financing institutions shall constitute an advantage
- Languages skills: Oral and written fluency in Portuguese
- Working knowledge of English
- Computer literacy: Good command of common Microsoft office package, including knowledge of spreadsheets
- Demonstrable experience in the use of accounting software packages is an advantage
