British High Commission is recruiting a Prosperity Officer B3 (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • The successful candidate will be a key member of the British High Commission’s Prosperity Team, focusing on key sectors (renewable energy and education) to remove barriers, boost trade and investment, job creation and skills development, to promote mutual prosperity for the UK and Mozambique
Duties
  • The jobholder will be expected to support efforts to deliver on cross-government prosperity objectives, combining efforts to promote mutual prosperity, boosting economic growth and development by growing markets, improving market access, fostering innovation and positioning UK companies to benefit from new opportunities
  • This means:
  • 50%: Provide high-quality policy analysis of prosperity issues in Mozambique, including, but not restricted to: the trade and investment environment, market access and regulatory challenges; and new developments in key sectors including Education and Renewable Energy. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing advice to the High Commissioner and senior leadership team on the implications for UK priorities and how the UK government should respond. This will involve engagement with government bodies, organizing events and visits, and building strong relationships with key UK and Mozambican institutions
  • 30%: Proactively seek out opportunities to create economic links between the UK and Mozambique, working closely with the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) to support UK businesses interested in the Mozambican market, and with the Department for International Development (DFID) to promote sustainable development through job creation, skills and opportunity growth
  • 20%: Manage and increase the efficiency of support services, providing cross cutting administrative, support to the Prosperity Team, including budget management and cost forecasting, drafting formal letters and invitations, arranging meetings and events for the team, and making travel arrangements, all while maintaining strong and proactive working relationships with HMG and external stakeholders
  • You will also be expected to work with the Head of the Team to research, design, deliver and evaluate projects and programmes to help support the High Commissions Prosperity Objectives
  • The successful applicant will be joining an evolving prosperity team working in an inclusive and supportive High Commission environment. He/she will work closely with the Prosperity and Sustainable Economic Development Officer to help define the team’s priorities. This will require flexibility in approach, reaching and broad range of prosperity challenges and opportunities, which may alter the final scope of the position and associated roles and responsibilities
  • This position will be line managed by the Prosperity and Sustainable Economic Growth Officer
Resources Managed (Staff and Expenditure)
  • This position does not have line management responsibilities. It Is likely that there will be programme and project funds to manage the extent to which will be confirmed
Requisites
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Education, Management or Business Administration
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience, some of which should be in related work with the USG, NGOs, other donor organizations, or host-government organizations
  • Good research and analytical skills
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Portuguese
  • Good interpersonal and people skills, a self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in the use of office computer applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive with a proven track record of delivering results Personal drive and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working with the Government of Mozambique Experience working with diplomatic missions or multilateral institutions
  • Experience of working in an international context e.g. multilateral/UK/WB
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in an English-language work environment
