Description

- Contract Duration: Until 31/03/2020
Duties
Needs and technical assessment
- Lead PHP team in the continuous assessment of communities, needs, perceptions and knowledge to support to continuous adaptation of activity content
- In collaboration with MEAL support the implementation of assessments including but not limited to post-distribution monitoring, surveys, needs assessments, focus group discussions, etc. and ensure the gaps identified are considered in programme design. To understand and analyze emergency and long term needs for the sustainability of water and sanitation services
Management
- Manage the work of assigned assistants, taking responsibility for setting objectives, following up on workplans, monitoring quality of work, resolving issues (with support of the team leader where required)
- Liaise with logistics and finance to ensure proper planning for equipment and materials required for public health engineering work
Program implementation
- Manage the implementation of Public Health Promotion and Community Engagement activities in all phases of early recovery and long term WASH programming e.g. collection of baseline data, ensuring two-way communication with communities, support in the design, implementation and monitoring of public health promotion activities based on communities feed backs, etc.
- Conduct training needs assessments of assistants and suggest areas of improvement to the PHP team leader for support in the designing relevant capacity building schedules (e.g. on the job, weekly trainings on defined topics, etc.)
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
- Ensure monitoring systems are in place throughout implementation of activities to measure the impact of activities and evaluate activity outputs and indicators
- Documenting and sharing lessons learnt, successes or failure, and cross program exchanges with other WASH programs
Integration, coordination and transversal aspects
- Ensure that construction works is integrated with hygiene promotion and community participation component, to ensure sustainability of the infrastructure built
- Ensure the integration of gender, protection, environment and other crosscutting issues to the design, implementation and development of WASH construction activities as well as reporting, and ensure that activities consider the needs of specific groups and individuals, especially children, the elderly and disabled
Requisites
- We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Formal qualifications in Public Health, Community Health, Anthropology or Social Sciences
- Ability to read and write in English and Portuguese
- Ability to make oral presentations and write clear reports and guidance in Portuguese and English
- At least 2 years’ practical experience working with vulnerable communities in the field of Health Promotion
- Experience of working with NGOs in emergency response is desirable
