UpEnergy is recruiting a Sales and Market Development Manager (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.

- UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, expanding both in terms of product and geographic portfolio. In the context of our Expansion to the Mozambican market, we are looking for an experienced Sales and Market Development Coordinator who is passionate about our mission and motivated by the challenge to help UpEnergy set up operations in a new key market
- The Sales and Market Development Coordinator will also have the opportunity to actively participate in and take ownership over key operational projects to advance UpEnergy’s business in Mozambique including, but not limited to, manufacturing, supply chain management, distribution, sales and marketing, retail partnerships, as well as the piloting and launch of new products. UpEnergy seeks professionals interested in clean energy, rural distribution, international health and development to serve as the Sales and Market Development Coordinator for our operations in Mozambique
- The role requires cultural sensitivity, entrepreneurial drive, strong sales and marketing ability, and analytical business thinking. The Sales and Market Development Coordinator will report directly to the Country Manager, manage a team of roughly twenty sales people with scope for growth as well as work with local distribution and retail partners
- Start date & Location: The role is based in Maputo, Mozambique. We are looking for the right candidate to start as soon as possible, but we are flexible. Particularly under the current COVID pandemic, we put safety first while continuing to bring impact to our community and the environment. We appreciate your flexibility to in confirming a start date
Duties
Planning and Strategy
- Development of a sustainable sales model by product category, standardization of marketing materials/sensitization training tools, formalizing product demonstration, gathering feedback from users on new products, enforcing standardized pricing structures across regions and distribution channels
- Contribute to a comprehensive strategy for increasing sales of all UpEnergy products in both urban and rural areas
- Establish new sales initiatives and grow existing initiatives in order to ensure that UpEnergy meets all product sales milestones through the development of efficient channel sales
Management
- Reach all sales targets set forth in the UpEnergy KPI document or as per agreed between UpEnergy’s CEO and the employee
- Manage team to support Marketing department’s product adoption testing, price sensitivity analysis and novel payment mechanisms
- Oversee management of all UpEnergy Sales divisions
- Directly manage the Sales Agents
- Provide periodic training and feedback to staff on effective sales techniques
- Develop performance indicators and metrics to measure effectiveness of sales strategies/personnel and incentivize sales personnel to increase sales and improve end user data collection
- Develop an effective organizational system and set of controls within the Regional Divisions
- Oversee recruitment of additional sales staff
- Work with the Country Manager to ensure smooth, transparent processes by which the sales staff handles stock and cash
- Work with Country Manager and local partners to run effective and well-targeted marketing campaigns
- Work with Country Manager to incentivize sales team and distributors to collect end user data
- Support the Country Manager in Managing Channel, Client and supplier relationships
- Create partnerships with local NGOs, financial institutions, social enterprises, entrepreneurs’ and. commercial interests to scale marketing and distribution efforts
- Work with the team and local partners to run effective and well-targeted marketing campaigns
Sales Admin
- Participate in fieldwork activities like monitoring, onsite visits KPTs and other surveys
- Designing and maintain a filing system for hard and soft copies of documents at office and Dropbox respectively
- Implement effective sales record keeping systems with the team
- Implement regular reporting on sales by teams
- Logistics planning – work with the Inventory Manager and Office Manager to coordinate delivery of product to market, collect payments where appropriate, service product warranty requests as well as hosting potential partners
- Consolidation and reconciliation weekly sales by comparing downloaded data against scanned receipts
- Support sales team by training team on, installing and troubleshooting the digital data collection platforms for sales
- Ensuring the delivery, sorting, and distribution of hardcopy sales receipts to the responsible data team members. I.e Scanning team, D-receipts and Partner receipts
- Fieldwork activities like audits, onsite visits and surveys, picture activities and other related activities
- Other administrative support which may include but not limited handling the office customer care line and controlling issuing of receipt books to the sales team
- Develop an effective organizational system and set of controls within the Sales Division:
- Implement effective sales record keeping systems
- Implement regular reporting on sales by project type, measure ROI
- Manage coordination of record keeping with partners
- Assist in preparation for annual carbon audit
- Assist in quality control monitoring
- Manage coordination of record keeping with retail partners, the team and the Office
- Cost Management – This includes effective cost management of all sales related activities including sales trip planning, transportation, distribution and sales person remuneration
Requisites
- A proven track record of implementing and/or managing sales and marketing programs
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree and/or MBA
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma required
- At least 2 years of work experience, ideally in rural direct sales/distribution
- Preference for experience in sale of household durable goods or FMCG’s
- Possess an entrepreneurial mindset, creative, ambitious and able to take initiative
- Passionate about UpEnergy’s mission, with basic knowledge of clean energy products and rural distribution
- Supply chain experience preferred
- MS Excel skills
- Ability to work in a team setting and informing management
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience as a trusted resource as a member of – or providing support to – a leadership team
- Fluent English required. Working knowledge of one or more local Ugandan dialects a plus
- Strong interpersonal/networking skills
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Hold a valid Driver’s License
- Familiarity with the development of energy or carbon projects
- An understanding of customers and business culture in Mozambique
