The position is administered by UNDP Mozambique and it is part of a cost shared project, the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), financed locally by all UN Agencies, Funds, Programmes and Organizations.
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the UN Security Adviser (UNSA) or the Local Security Assistant, the Security & Communications Clerk works in shifts as part of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) for the benefit of the safety and security of UN personnel and property.
Duties
- Provides security assistance to all staff members on a 24/7 basis (12 hours shifts) and promptly reacts to emergency situations
- He/she is required to go personally to the place of the incident and immediately inform the UNSA or the LSA
- Ensures a rapid response from the local police. On occasion he/she is required to transport the policemen to the scene
- Closely monitor the services provided by the UN security services provider
- Randomly monitors the performance of the security guards by conducting scheduled patrols in selected areas of Maputo
- Prepares security patrol reports and submit them at the end of his/her shift
- Prepares incident reports on all security related incidents and submit them at the end of his/her shift
- Follows up on all security incidents with the National Authorities (PRM, PIC, FIR, Migration) and other official and civil organizations
- Conducts inspections to the equipment used by the security guards
- Conducts inspections to the electronic security systems installed at the UN offices
- Conducts inspections to the electronic security systems installed in the residences of internationally-recruited staff members
- Assists on events organized by the UN – Mozambique
- On request, accompanies UN delegations on retreats, workshops , conferences and other events within Maputo and in the field
- Collects the media news (newspaper, radio, TV, online news) related to security and submits them at the end of his/her shift
- On request, mans the UN Radio Room operating HF and VHF radio systems
- Performs other duties as required
Requisites
- Mozambican nationals only

- Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to listen and work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
- Proven and sustained communication (verbal and written) skills
- Ability and interest to learn security related matters
- Completion of secondary education
- Minimum three years work experience in the field of private security, police or military
- Ability to operate a HF/VHF radio is an advantage
- Driving license and ability to drive all types of light vehicles (including 4x4)
- Basic computer skills and command of the MS Office
- Fluency in spoken and written Portuguese and good knowledge of spoken English
- Written English is an advantage
