TechnoServe is recruiting a Senior Business Advisor, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
- TechnoServe Mozambique is working with Sida to design and implement a five-year, Women IN Business (WIN) program (2018-2022). WIN has an ambitious goal of empowering women across Mozambique by making sustainable improvements to their participation in the market place
- WIN uses a market systems approach (“M4P”) to support the growth and efficiency of women in business. WIN will work with partners across the public and private sector to invest in changes that benefit women. For example, increasing the involvement and power of women to buy and sell in the market, improving the quality of goods and services to women, and advocating to change the rules and norms that determine how women engage in business
- WIN’s activities will focus on sectors with high-growth potential for women, such as textiles and garments, trade, childcare and agro-processing
Duties
- The Senior Business Advisor will define and execute strategies for one or more market systems under the WIN Program. Typically, the strategy will involve a series of interventions. Under each intervention, the Senior Business Advisor will work with a small number of private and public sector actors within the market system, to prove the business case for changing their approach in favor of WOB. Then, the Senior Business Advisor will lead on initiatives to try to crowd in other actors to replicate the change
- Lead on a specific sector within program implementation related to gender sensitive market research, stakeholder engagement and capacity development
- Hold discussions with women and stakeholders to identify business needs and map out solutions
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of the business case for engaging women
- Represent the program at networking and relationship meetings with private and public actors
- Manage program interventions – activities, budget, results
- Lead relationships with external contractors and sub-grantees
- With support from the Knowledge and Results Manager, monitor and evaluate the progress of sector activities
Requisites
- Relevant educational qualification (preferably Master level) in Economics, Statistics, Agribusiness, Business Management, Marketing, Finance, and Accounting or related fields
- At least 5 years’ experience working in the private sector in management consulting, market research, banking or related fields, or in an NGO/government role with the orientation towards private sector development
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing gender equality
- Track record of building and managing strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Proven ability to develop strategies and conduct an analysis of complex socio-economic situations
- Experience in authoring concise and well-written reports and presentations
- Knowledge and experience in Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) is an advantage
- Fluent in Portuguese and English
- Extremely curious, hard-working and driven
- Exceptional investigator and asker of questions
- Sensitive to the drivers of social or economic exclusion e.g. due to gender or age and committed to the reduction of social and economic inequalities
- Pushes innovative and creative ways of thinking and working
