Senior Business Advisor

TechnoServe is recruiting a Senior Business Advisor, to be based in Maputo, with potential travel to the provinces, Mozambique.
Duties
  • The Senior Business Advisor will sit directly under the Program Manager, and will assist with the technical advising for Business Women Connect’s entrepreneurship program as it moves to Phase II
  • The main 2019 activities of the second phase of this program will be to:
  • Identify and select women entrepreneurs/women financial service/MNO agents for trainings in Maputo and selected provinces
  • Deliver training and mentoring to women entrepreneurs as part of a comprehensive program based on their business and financial needs
  • Develop market linkages between women entrepreneurs/women financial service/MNO agents, other women entrepreneurs, suppliers, financial instructions in Mozambique
  • Capture baseline data at the beginning of training, measure results after mentoring phase
  • The Senior Business Advisor ’s specific activities will be as follows:
  • Activity description
  • Training content advising
  • Oversee the necessary updates of the training curriculum (in-class & coaching) on financial literacy and business skills
  • Organize refresher trainings for Business Counselors on entrepreneurship and financial literacy content when needed
  • Business and financial advising and implementation
  • Conduct a survey of the business landscape of the business women/agents
  • Based on survey results, provide recommendations for the program implementation regarding relevant market linkages: suppliers, financial/MNO institutions, business associations
  • Lead the implementation of the linkages activities and business association formation (if needed)
  • Analyze the specific business requirements of beneficiaries and adapt coaching and training to their needs
M&E supervision
  • Oversee business indicators and analysis during data collection and analysis for the baseline and endline evaluations; routine data collection; case studies and impact stories and training evaluations by the trainees
  • Elaborate lessons learned with BAs on best practices
General
  • Assist with a variety of miscellaneous, general tasks as they arise, including elaboration or review of project documents (MoU with partners, reports, etc.)
  • The Senior Business Advisor will report to the Program Manager and will have a dotted line to the Strategic Initiatives Manager and Associate Program Manager for Mozambique. The Senior Business Advisor is expected to be self-driven but will be supported by members of TechnoServe’s local Mozambique
Requisites
  • At least 4 years’ professional experience in private sector management
  • Entrepreneurship/financial management expertise
  • Financial inclusion expertise is desired
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, teamwork and relationship building
  • Good written and verbal communication and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsively
  • Able to adapt to changing working conditions
  • Self-directed, disciplined and driven
  • Fluent English and Portuguese required
