Senior Programme Assistant

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Mozambique wishes to recruit qualified and experienced Mozambican nationals for the role of Senior Programme Assistant, to be based in Pemba.

Duties

Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Sub-Office, the Senior Programme Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Monitor and report (to Pemba Sub Office) about the implementation of the stunting prevention programme at the district level, in close collaboration with all the implementing partners involved (NGO's, health authorities and health centre staff, community health workers)
  • Ensure monitoring activities are correctly undertaken by the NGOs and relevant health staff from the Health Centers
  • Provide support to the external evaluator for the activities related to the base-, mid- and end-line activities
  • Supervise the coordination activities of NGO and Health Centre Staff
  • Provide support to the NGO and the Health Centre Staff when any issue (technical or other) arises
  • Monitor and review the overall commodity movements such as food deliveries, storage, transport and distribution at the site and verify if the amounts received have been properly recorded, damaged or suspected to be damaged
  • Supervise the efficient distribution of food items at the site; verify appropriate entitlements (CSB+, LNS, Micronutrients);provide feedback to the Programme Officer, NGOs and district health authorities on the distribution
  • Assist in the conduct of regular meetings of community leaders and implementing partners on the commodity pipeline, distribution arrangements, and other relevant issues including nutrition interventions which are complementary to and important for stunting prevention
  • Assist in the implementation of the plan of action, review achievements and constraints and provide feedback accordingly
  • Assist the Programme Officer and implementing partners in encouraging women’s access to economic skills development and sensitizing public opinion on gender issues and gender focused activities
  • Identify any apparent issues and obstacles during programme implementation and report them to the appropriate personnel
  • In line with partnering NGOs, supervise and train other personnel on district level as appropriate
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requisites
Education
  • University degree in Agriculture, Sociology, Geography, Nutrition, Agricultural Economics, Food Security, Environment, Public Health, Community Development
Experience
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Accounts, Administration, Management, and audit or closely related fields
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of database packages are required
  • Working experience in web based ERP financial systems (i.e. SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc) would be an added value
  • Knowledge of IPSAS is desirable
  • Excellent communications skills, including good drafting ability in both English and Portuguese
Language
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required
  • Working knowledge of Macua or Maconde
