The U.S. Embassy in Maputo is seeking one individual for the position of Small Grants Assistant, to be based in Maputo.
Duties
- The Small Grants Assistant works through the Economic/Political Section to coordinate and administer the Political/Economic Section and Public Affairs Section (PAS) portions of funding under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Ambassador’s Self Help Program (SSH), the Demining grants and other related-small grants
- The incumbent will assist with solicitation, administration, and monitoring of grants in the amount of approximately $2,080,000 yearly
- He or she will serve as an active member of the inter-agency PEPFAR team in the U.S. Mission and will be responsible for attending interagency meetings, conducting site visits, reporting and data management for PEPFAR small grants
- The incumbent will also assist with outreach and communication to grantees and potential grantees for the Ambassador’s Self Help Fund and will serve as the point of contact for project close out and submission of financial reporting material
Requisites
- A Bachelor Degree is required. Preference will be given for a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, International Development, or related field
- 1 to 2 years of previous work in the health development sector in Africa and experience with financial and grant management mechanisms
- Level 3 (writing, reading, and speaking) English is required. Level 4 (writing, reading, and speaking) Portuguese is required
- Working knowledge of public health issues, including HIV/AIDS is preferred. Strong working knowledge of computer training, such as database management, word processing, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft is required
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a team environment and to proactively build consensus is required
- Ability to work in a high stress, high volume environment is required
- Organizational, analytical, and writing skills are required
