Small Grants Program Coordinator

US Embassy is recruiting a Small Grants Program Coordinator, to be based in Maputo.

Duties
  • Incumbent administers and manages the Mission’s Small Grants Coordination Office, which incorporates several funds that promote grassroots-level initiatives throughout Mozambique. Job holder oversees the entire life cycle of the grants, including making recommendations to senior management for the awarding of the grants to monitoring progress and preparing close-out reporting on completed projects
  • Position is also responsible for overseeing end use monitoring for U.S. Government funding provided for other small projects in Mozambique. Job holder is directly supervised by the Deputy Chief, Political-Economic Section and supervises one Small Grants PEPFAR Assistant and one Small Grants Assistant
  • This position requires a significant amount of travel to monitor and review grant proposals
Requisites
  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • At least five years of experience in positions with business administration, public administration, finance, program funding and/or law experience is required; One year of the total 5 years must have been in a supervisory role
  • Fluency (level IV) in speaking/reading/writing English is required. Rudimentary (level II) speaking/reading/ writing knowledge of Portuguese is required
  • Management of this program requires a detailed working knowledge of US policies and regulations governing grants. Familiarity with challenges faced by Mozambican NGO groups is required
  • The ability to prepare detailed reports in English is required. Ability to deal with multiple challenges and deadlines in a fast-moving environment is required. Diplomacy and people-to-people skills are a must. Good numerical skills manipulating numbers are required. Keyboarding skills that include both speed and accuracy are required. Good computer skills, including familiarity with and use of word processing and spreadsheet software is required. Ability to work independently, using judgment in administering existing projects and establishing lists of new projects based upon guidelines provided. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, tact, and cultural sensitivity in dealing with the public are required. Must be able to travel outside of Maputo to remote areas of Mozambique for up to several days at a time
