Grindrod is recruiting a Technical Manager, to be based in Nacala, Mozambique.
Duties
- Accountable for the management and control off all fleet maintenance nationally and in neighbouring countries
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Manage and monitors all planned vehicle maintenance activities
- Manage and monitors vehicle availability and takes corrective action as required
- Provides feedback to management regarding condition and further maintenance requirements related to the national fleet
- Liaises with regional operations regarding maintenance planning and issues of non-compliance
- Liaises with all service providers on fleet maintenance including FML contract vehicle providers
- Management and optimization of the Operation department’s human resources under your control
- Perform ad-hoc vehicle inspections and audits
- Report the fleet status and down time daily to the COO and CEO
- Critical Outcomes:
- Maintenance standards, policies and procedures
- Compliance and all regulatory requirements are met and adhered to at all time
- Fleet standards are maintained at all times
- Maintains a greater than 90 percent fleet availability
- Defect and break- down repairs:
- Analyses breakdown incidents in order to provide input to maintenance strategies and standards
- Controls maintenance management 3rd party resource performance regarding breakdown repairs
- Liaises with regional operations and staff regarding breakdown events, defect repairs and corrective action
- Monitors driver related abuse and vehicle damage
- Reports same to National Operations manager
- Critical Outcomes:
- Breakdowns and defects repairs are repaired to the required standard, with minimum downtime on fleet
- Root causes are addressed to reduce costs
- Financial Management and cost control:
- Evaluates and approves maintenance related purchases
- Analyses maintenance expenditure and costs in terms of targets and budgets and takes necessary corrective actions
- Develops budgets and presents for approval
- Critical Outcomes:
Costs are controlled and remain within budget
- Administration:
- Ensures that all administrative requirements are met in the maintenance operation in compliance with company and customer standards and aligned to statutory requirements
- Critical Outcomes:
- Accurate administration processes applied
- Human Resource Management:
- Conducts Periodic performance evaluates in accordance with company requirements
- Plans and approves leave for all direct reports
- Evaluates resource deployment and takes appropriate corrective action
- Performs job interviews and participates in candidate selection within maintenance space
- Critical Outcomes:
- Ensure effective management and deployment of maintenance staff aligned to company requirements and standards
- Resources and facilities management:
- Inspects and audits maintenance facilities
- Audits and selects contractors and suppliers
- Monitors use of maintenance vehicles
- Ensures that all related equipment and facilities are used in accordance with the relevant procedures and legislative requirements
- Critical Outcomes:
- Internal facilities and third party contractors/suppliers comply with requirements and standards
- Control of use of company maintenance vehicles
- Compliance with company standards, ethics and safety requirements:
- Ensure that all related safe working procedures, standards and legislative requirements are adhered to
- Ensures that staff and third party contractors comply with all relevant working procedures, legislation and customer site requirements
- Brings all issues relating to non-compliance and dishonesty to the attention of the General Manager and CEO
- Provides technical assistance during incident and accident investigations

- Remain current with legislation

Requisites
- Qualified Technician with trade test certificate and management training certificates
- Fluent in English and Portuguese
- Solid knowledge of Technology

- Minimum 5 years in Operation with an additional 5 years’ experience in maintenance management
