Swisscontact is recruiting an Agriculture Sales and Manufacturing Manager (m/f), to be based in Nampula, Mozambique.
Description
- As the Agriculture Sales and Manufacturing Manager, you will leverage your network and established relationships within the agricultural industry to develop new relationships and agricultural customers across Northern Mozambique, and beyond. You will travel up to 60% of your time – a flexible schedule is required. The candidate is ideally located in Nampula
Duties
- Grow sales services within Mozambique focusing on commercial farmers (B2C) and organizations working with smallholder farmers (B2B)
- Provide seed and fertilizer advice in relation to research and production of crops directly to the farmer
- Provide advice regarding crop husbandry and crop rotation
- Responsible for making agronomic related decisions regarding production activities, climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive improvement of farm productivity
- Promote investment in agro-processing by private sector in the targeted value chains and states based on knowledge of industry and market needs, including post-harvest handling, aggregation, storage and certification
- Work with industry to understand how post-harvest products can be converted to value
- Ensure strong market link between agro-processors and input providers and farmers
- Ensure a supportive eco-system for strengthening community-based groups, associations, cooperatives, and enterprises for processing
- Ensure a supportive business development eco-system for service centres to perform market-oriented processing for value addition of target commodities
- Assist service centre operators, including farmer’s organizations, in identifying and applying appropriate value addition and processing technologies
- Develop and implement long term agronomic plans and practices to support organization/farm plans and budgets to maintain maximum production
- Develop and implement regional agronomic marketing plans to support organization plans and budget
- Responsible for marketing specific products and agronomic services to clients such as fertilizer, chemicals and/or seed
- Develop and maintain close customer relations with key clients by providing professional agronomic service and advice
- Arrange and coordinate various technical and marketing activities, these may include field days, farmer meetings, demonstration trials and trial sites
Requisites
- Ideally 8 years’ professional experience in agribusiness market systems, agro processing and supply chain management, food safety, preservation and storage, agriculture, and/or fortification including deep private sector experience, including in a manufacturing setting, preferred
- Undergraduate degree in in Business, Management, Agriculture, Food Sciences, Nutrition, Food Engineering, or Food technology, Agricultural Economics, or related disciples
- Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural mechanization, Business, Management, Finance or related disciplines
- Deep understanding of the agro-processing sector, with knowledge of relevant topics, such as: food production and processing, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), worker safety, finance for growing businesses, and food systems value chain development
- Firm knowledge and experience of Quality management systems certification such as ISO
- Experience setting up agro processing businesses
- Proven track record in providing technical and/or business solutions to agro-processors, with experience implementing or advising on smallholder sourcing models
- Excellent understanding of value chain analysis, development and Good Agricultural Practices
- Strong project management, construction coordination and analytical skills preferred
- Proven track record in planning, implementing, and promoting farm mechanization projects, plans or programs
- Strong team leader with proven field operations management experience
- Strong administrative and organization skills, commitment, attention to detail and strong forward planning skills
- Hands on approach to work, with the ability to deliver on deadlines in a fast-paced and fast-changing environment, with minimal or no supervision
- Strong teaching, communication, and negotiation skills: ability to communicate highly technical information to growers, sales reps and accounts in a manner that is easily understandable
- Significant technical knowledge of product portfolio, product pipeline and product value propositions
- Knowledge of local language/Products/Markets
