US Embassy is recruiting a Commercial Assistant, to be based in Maputo.

Duties
  • Performs research, contact and reporting assignments in promoting U.S. trade objectives in Mozambique for assigned industry sectors
  • Provides market information and trade promotion assistance to U.S. firms in assigned industry sectors of moderate complexity
  • Works under direction of Senior Commercial Officer and/or Commercial Specialist in planning, organizing, and implementing complex trade missions, international buyer programs, individual company Gold Key visits, Initial Market Checks (IMC) and completing International Company Profiles (ICPs), International Partner Searches (IPS), Single Company Promotions (SCPs), other CS services and market research projects
  • In assigned sectors of limited scope, takes project lead for these similar activities. Maintains close contact with a wide range of working-level and mid-level private and public sector officials in assigned sectors
  • Provides business counseling to local and U.S. business representatives
  • Plans, coordinates and participates in market and export promotion events and serves as event logistics coordinator
  • Assists Senior Commercial Officer in organizing official visits, especially senior level USG officials and helps with the logistics of these visits. Also assists with visits from other Trade Promotion Coordinating Council (TPCC) members, especially Exim Bank, USTDA and OPIC
  • Oversees official Commercial Service databases like CTS, making sure they are up-to-date, along with creating and maintaining guest lists for official functions
  • Keeps track of E-menu service records and open participation agreements
  • Assists the Budget/Administrative Analyst with inventory records and other administrative duties as assigned and serves as his/her back-up
  • Serves as CS Mozambique webmaster, Information Management Systems coordinator and commercial librarian
Requisites
  • A bachelor’s degree or host country equivalent in economics, accounting, marketing, international trade or business administration or equivalent postsecondary education is required
  • Three years of responsible work experience in a sales, marketing, business management, trade promotion, market/economic research or information management environment within the Mozambique market is required
  • Level IV English (speaking /reading/written), Level IV Portuguese (fluent Portuguese) – speaking/reading/written is required
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point) is required
  • Thorough knowledge of the domestic economy, commercial, governmental and industrial structures, business and industry customs and practices and trade and investment laws, regulations and policies
  • Thorough understanding of Commercial Services’ trade promotion goals, programs and procedures, marketing strategies and reporting requirements
