UNDP is recruiting a Consultant - Capacity Support Specialist, to be based in Maputo.
Duties
Objective of the Assignment
Under the supervision of the UNDP Technical Advisor in Mine Action and in liaison with the UNDP BCPR office in Geneva, provide substantial, liaison and follow up support to the Government of Mozambique for the planning and implementation of the Third Review Conference to the APMBC.
Deliverables
- In liaison with UNDP BCPR in Geneva and the UNDP Technical Adviser on mine action, assist Mozambique in the preparations for and implementation of the 3rd review conference of the APMBC incl. the drafting of documents including relevant background documents in the preparatory phase of the conference, drafting of bullet points, speeches, presentations etc
- Attend regularly the Local Coordination Committee meetings
- Draft the minutes, invite the organizing committee to the monthly meetings, follow up and liaise as appropriate
- Under the guidance and upon request from the UNDP technical adviser and IND Director provide ongoing support to the Mozambique Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, throughout the preparations for, during and immediately after the Review Conference
- Under the guidance of the UNDP technical advisor and Deputy Country Directors for Programme and Operations provide ongoing support to the national Conference Organizer in the finalization of Terms of Reference and contracting of logistical services and equipment for the Review Conference
- Support the development of a communications strategy
- Support the background research and preparation of briefing notes for UNDP
- As per request, assist the UNDP technical adviser in any other relevant aspects of the preparations for and implementation of the 3rd Review Conference of the APMBC
- Travel: As and when required to Geneva, Switzerland

Education
- Advanced University degree (Master degree or equivalent) in international humanitarian law, international relations, geopolitics, social sciences, law, politics, conflict and/or development or related field
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working on humanitarian disarmament and non-proliferation issues, arms control and or mine action programming, experience from the APMBC or other humanitarian disarmament instruments
- Previous experience organizing diplomatic conferences would be a distinct advantage
- Familiarity with the UN system, and international organisations, multi-lateral and other academic and international institutions working on conflict /violence prevention related issues, and access to relevant experts and policy makers
Language Requirements
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English
- Spoken Portuguese strongly desirable
