Duties
- Provide guidance and manage offices providing engineering services in continental Africa
- Build and lead an in-country team (Mozambique), with strong linkages to a strong international company
- Reports to Golder in Africa’s Engineering Business Unit Leader and works closely with the Golder Africa management team
- Drive strategic planning of engineering services within the various regions, outside South Africa, and in synergy with the Golder Strategy for Mozambique
- Develop strategic goals in collaboration with the lead engineers within each region in Africa, to ensure market sector growth e.g. Mining, Oil & Gas
- Identify and drive business development opportunities within the engineering specialized areas of Golder Africa e.g. water engineering, tailings engineering, waste engineering, geotechnical engineering, process engineering
- Track the progress of these initiatives and give feedback to the BU ENG leader and the BD leader
- Guide the selection of opportunities to pursue and the generation of engineering proposals, ensuring integration with other Business Units
- Develop business plans for each region’s engineering group, to reflect the performance targets, BSC’s and financial models in terms of capital requirements and operating capital profiles
- Develop Human Development strategies in collaboration with the lead engineer in each region in terms of growing the engineering team within each regional office
- Give technical guidance and support to the lead engineers in terms of Golder engineering systems, technical excellence, quality assurance, etc
- Guide and initiate training programs for young engineers and schedule exchange programs between regional offices and the main engineering offices in Pretoria and Johannesburg
- Management of projects executed in the regions to ensure effective coordination with the main engineering offices in South Africa and globally as needed
- Development of leadership in each region through mentoring programs.
- Interaction with Zitholele Consulting and management of the Alliance with regard to collective provision of Engineering
Requisites
- A relevant university degree at an internationally accredited institution in one of the fields of environmental or civil engineering is required
- Post graduate specialization in environmental or earth engineering is desirable
- Registration as a professional engineer with a recognized jurisdiction is a requirement for this position
- Minimum of ten years consultancy experience and, ideally have a proven track record in the management of professional and administrative staff
- Self driven, highly motivated and client focussed
- Must be innovative and have an understanding of the importance of networking and the ability to work collaboratively to execute projects, drawing resources and skills from across the world
- Embracing the Golder culture of uncompromised health and safety is essential. Portuguese, experience in country essential
