Heading is recruiting for its client, an Oil and Gas company, an Environmental Specialist (m/f), to be based in Pemba, Mozambique.
Duties
- Ensure that all reasonable steps and mitigation measures are taken to prevent environmental pollution from the work activities
- Implement a Waste Management System for handling, segregation, collection, treatment and disposal of waste
- Support the implementation of site environmental monitoring work instruction and waste management plan
- Support updating of environmental procedures as applicable
- Conduct full environment aspect/impact register with regards to the operating sites, and ensure risks identified are managed according to Company requirements
- Monitor, review and verify compliance onsite with the ESMP and statutory requirements by the Contractors and Subcontractors
- Follow up daily on the implementation of Contractors’ method statements/work instructions
- Liaise with the environmental monitoring and waste management contractors onsite
- Assist contractors during onsite environmental monitoring activities
- Ensure that the Contractor remedies environmental and social issues onsite in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of Company and authorities
- Maintain environmental compliance records for statutory requirements
- Provide information to maintain record of correspondences with local authorities regarding environmental issues
- Support the implementation of Environmental & Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the company South Project and compliance of the EMS with the ISO 14001
- Keep up to date inventory of potential pollution sources, ensure MSDSs are readily accessible to employees onsite
- Liaise with key onsite staff of their roles and responsibilities in terms of the ESMP
- Participate in the HSE audits process to audit contractor EMS including waste management records
- Review reports from contractors’ environmental performance
- Conduct periodic environmental inspections in the workplace and audits to ensure adherence to the Company compliance obligations
- Participate in the environmental incident investigations and ensure that all incidents are properly reported, recorded, investigated and closed out
- Implement environmental and social training programs and other awareness initiatives
- Attend HSE meeting with headquarters and onsite team
- Deliver periodic toolbox talks for company employees, contractors and subcontractors
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly HSE report
- Assist in incorporating environmental statistics into the HSE database
Requisites
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or similar areas
- At least 4 years of relevant environment experience
- Strong understanding of Environmental Management/Engineering in industrial area, preferably in Oil and Gas industries with LNG experience
- Aware of relevant national environmental legal requirements and international conventions and protocols
- Local and international environmental governing regulations
- EMS elements, procedures and records for implementing the EMS
- Environmental Risk and Impact Assessment
- Follow-up of Environmental Monitoring activities
- Understanding of Environmental sampling requirements and fieldwork experience
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to abide by the company HSE policies, procedures, plans and practices
- Fluent in Portuguese and English
