World Food Programme is hiring a Field Market Assistant to be based in Chimoio, Mocuba, and Angonia, with extensive travelling required in the districts and surrounding areas.
Duties
- Provide extensive support to programme implementation in the areas (districts) of operation (procurement, logistics, training, monitoring, etc)
- Be the liaison officer between the participating farmer organisations and WFP
- Provide mobilisation and training to farmers and farmer organisation representatives in internal organization, management, post-harvest handling, quality control, marketing, etc
- In close collaboration with partner organisations contribute to the delivery of relevant training to the farmers and farmer associations
- Follow up of the Farmer Associations’ training plan and regular assessment on progress
- Develop and update small and medium scale traders’ vendor list by district
- Liaise and provide updates to district authorities on the implementation and status of the projects
- Undertake monthly monitoring field missions to project areas and as when required to asses project outputs and participating beneficiaries (small/medium traders and small scale farmers’ organisations)
- Undertake data collection activities such as farmer organization records as required to Field Officers
- Provide monthly updates on programme activities and progress reports to Smallholder Support Officer and Sub offices
- Undertake Case studies to monitor impact of programme as required
- Be involved in programme surveys
- In coordination with the Logistics assist with commodity uplift operations in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of WFP purchase
- Be responsible for the maintenance and organisation of all relevant data related to district programmes and activities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requisites
- University Degree in Humanities, Economy, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Local Development or similar
- At least 3 years of experience in direct work with producers grassroots organizations in agricultural production and/ or organization Experience in post-harvest and marketing projects desirable
- Experience in coordination with local government and non-government stakeholders desirable
- Fluency in Portuguese and intermediate knowledge of local language’s desirable (enumerate languages). Read and understand English is an advantage
- Computers and standard software packages and systems
- Good knowledge of training and workshops tools for grassroots organizations
- Knowledge of cooperatives schemes, post-harvest processes, Quality Control (QC) and marketing of agricultural products desirable
- Good knowledge of gender approaches and women affirmative action’s desirable
- Excellent communication skills with population and grassroots organizations
- Capacities for organization and execution of workshops and training with grassroots organization
- Sound judgment and ability to resolve operational problems
- Capable of working with minimum of supervision and ability to mobilise and train others
- Able to work effectively with people of different backgrounds
- Ability to work with accuracy under time constraints and pressure
- Good administrative and supervisory skills Ability to plan and organize work schedules independently
