Florestas de Niassa is recruiting a Forester, to be based in Lichinga and Niassa, Mozambique.
Description
- Florestas de Niassa wishes to recruit a Forester based at its largest forestry plantation outside Lichinga in Niassa Province
- The Forester position is responsible for the planning and execution of forestry activities in line with the Company’s policies, procedures and prescriptions and reports to the Plantation Manager
Duties
- Plans and manages silviculture activities within budget and in compliance with the Company’s policies, procedures and prescriptions
- Supervises forest technicians, drivers, machine operators, and general labour
- Monitors and reports the progress of different activities, productivity and cost against Budget
- Assists in the compilation of Annual Plans of Operations (APO)
- Directs and supervises the preparation of sites on which trees will be planted
- Plans and executes planting, maintenance, fire protection and harvesting activities
- Ensures compliance to the Company’s safety, health and environmental policies and procedures
- Communicates with neighbours about firefighting and fire protection
- Drives the plantation’s fire protection and participates in fire standby and fire-fighting activities
- Plans, directs and controls the use of resources such as labour, tools, machinery, vehicles, materials using the best forestry or technical methods to achieve an efficient operation
- Monitors usage of materials against production standards
- Implements in-house training and development of subordinates on plantation
- Position works outdoors and therefore individual must be in excellent physical condition
- Individual must be a good problem solver
- Ability to use different tools such as clinometers, diameter tapes, increment borers and GPS unit
Requisites
- Degree in Forestry
- At least 5 years hands on experience as a forester in a commercial forestry environment
- Short courses in any of the following will be an added advantage:
- Production Planning
- Supervision or Productivity Management
- Weed Control
- Basic Forest Fire Fighting
- Disciplinary Procedures of Employees
- Safety in the work place
