- Program Description: The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN), Maputo through its Strengthening Food Systems and FNS in Beira Corridor program has given funding to Technoserve Mozambique for a regional food and nutrition security program (Manguana) for the period of 2023-2027. Agriculture is a critical pillar of the Mozambican economy, employing over 80% of the rural population and contributing to 25% of the national GDP. Small and medium farms account for 95% of agricultural production. Nonetheless, productivity is low for the majority of food crops. The project will complement other investments and coordinate with other programs in this sector to address productivity barriers in the Beira Corridor to improve FNS by increasing productivity, incomes, and jobs
- Specifically, the program seeks:

- Job Summary: The Gender & Youth Manager will be responsible for Ensuring that gender analysis is integrated into the design and day-to-day activities of the project, develop gender and youth Action Plan, training program staff and partners on gender/youth inclusiveness and monitor progress
Duties
- Lead the implementation of the Gender and Youth Action Plan, Coordinate with TechnoServe HQ and other consortium members on Gender and Youth related issues
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning under gender and youth work
- Provide ongoing training and support project staff, beneficiaries, and partners on gender and youth awareness
- Contribute to Program annual work plans and ensure timely implementation of the women and youth-targeted work plan activities
- Ensure that gender analysis is integrated into the design and day-to-day activities of the project
- Promote Program innovation and upscaling grants facility and identify and encourage eligible women and youth-led actors and organizations to participate in the grants application process
- Support timely implementation of the MANGUANA women and youth business grants
- Lead gender awareness training in work plans and grants implementation plans for the Program team, the Manguana beneficiary organizations, grantees, and businesses and ensure timely implementation
- Identity and communicate the business case for the inclusion of women and youth to agribusiness clients and partners
- Lead entrepreneurship training targeted to women and youth that include confidence and skill-building activities that challenge the social norms preventing them from seeking jobs or entrepreneurship opportunities
- Encourage media partners and local businesses to highlight entrepreneurship opportunities and benefits (e.g., showcasing successful role models) to help women and youth see themselves as potentially successful entrepreneurs
- Develop and promote women and youth inclusive management practices
- This includes coaching current women and youth employees to take leadership roles and develop the technical skills needed for advancement
- Design internship and young professionals programs for Project and beneficiary organizations for young women and men from local universities to support their professional development
- Support financial institutions by conducting gender analyses that examine the needs of women- and youth-owned businesses, demonstrating the business case for expanding client portfolios with women and youth, and raising awareness of unconscious bias effects on client relationships and services
- Support expansion of informal savings for women and youth by supporting financial institutions to conduct gender analyses that examine the needs of women- and youth-owned businesses, demonstrating the business case for expanding client portfolios with women and youth, and raising awareness of unconscious bias effects on client relationships and services
Requisites
- Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, either Business, Economics, Agriculture, Finance or equivalent, including 7 years of experience or a Master’s degree, either Business, Economics, Agriculture, Finance or equivalent, including 5 years of experience in agronomy, rural development, agribusiness or other relevant field
- Knowledge and experience in conducting gender analysis, delivering gender training and developing gender policy in programs in Mozambique and outside
- Knowledge and understanding of issues around women’s economic empowerment
- Able to be thoughtful and practical on ways to engage and empower women and youth
- Experience designing and facilitating participatory and interactive conferences and workshops, using a variety of methods like liberating structures and/or other adult learning techniques
- Experience facilitating change through participatory and inclusive learning and reflection, especially in rural and cross-cultural environments
- Strong private sector market orientation, entrepreneurial and innovative thinker
- Detail orientation, including strong organizational, analytical, and quantitative skills
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other administrative applications
- Communicative and open to exchange and learning
- Fluency in Portuguese and at least one of the local languages in the Beira Corridor, with excellent Portuguese oral and written communication skills required
- Proficiency in English is preferred
