Aldelia is recruiting a Legal Counsel Assistant (m/f), to be based in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
Duties
- Receive and follow up criminal reports
- Draft criminal reports and application letters to local judicial stakeholders
- Prepare weekly reports on illegal mining arrests and update case tracker
- Prepare and submit applications, letters, petitions, and other documents to local relevant authorities
- Participate in trial sessions
- Assess weekly tried cases in Montepuez courthouse and maintain an updated record
- Prepare any proceedings and reports as it may be requested by the Legal Counsel
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Protection Services Department and the Private Security Legal Advisor
- Liaise with and maintaining good relationship with the police force and courts
- Review OGM fact-finding reports and prepare counterproposals
- Review OGM Independent Panel and prepare appeals
- Review OGM settlement agreements
- Maintain an updated record of grievances under OGM assessment
- Provide day-to-day legal/commercial advice as required by the departments
- Prepare and review documents as required by the various departments
- Prepare minutes, notarize documents, and keep record
- Prepare and review a range of commercial contracts including but not limited to supplier agreements, MOUs, confidentiality agreements and terms & conditions
- Prepare Purchase Requests and keep track of services provided by external lawyers
- Assist Gemfields Group’s Legal Team with ad-hoc projects and/or initiatives as required
Requisites
- At least 3 years’ experience as a qualified lawyer gained in-house and/or at a leading law firm in Mozambique
- Previous experience in the mining or extractives industry sector preferred
- Strong understanding of Mozambican criminal and civil legislation & related legal framework
- Ability to carry his/her work out with a high level of professionalism, sensitivity, discipline, responsibility, leadership and good judgment (including when to act and when to consult on tasks)
- Must demonstrate initiative, a “can do” attitude, be practical/adaptable, and demonstrate strong organizational skills, people skills, and problem-solving ability
- Be trustworthy and diplomatic with confidential (sometimes highly confidential) or otherwise sensitive information
- Be calm and able to prioritize under pressure
- Be able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with strong attention to detail
