PSI is recruiting a Operational Research Technical Advisor, to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Duties
- In collaboration with the PSI Evidence, Programs and Marketing teams, facilitate development of a research agendas based on programmatic requirements
- Support departments to prioritize quarterly and annual research, as well as, ensure appropriate research is conducted to obtain necessary indicators
- Lead the design and implementation of high-quality research that meets strategic information needs
- In collaboration with the procurement team facilitate competitive identification and selection of research firms to support field data collection
- Coordinate research activities between PSI/Mozambique, local research agencies, and/or consultants, and ensuring quality control over study design, field implementation and data collection, data analysis, and data interpretation
- Collaborate with PSI/Mozambique Senior Manager Evidence to design analyses of existing data in the MIS system to answer strategic research questions, improve the quality of the MIS system, and ensure that programmatic and marketing information needs are met using routine data where possible
- Work with other PSI/Mozambique departments to increase the use of research for informed decision-making
- Packaging research findings to inform audiences accordingly, conducting dissemination and leading additional analyses to answer programmatic needs
- Lead dissemination of research results for PSI/Mozambique internally and support external dissemination
- Provide technical support to PSI/Mozambique program and marketing staff to build their skills in interpreting research results and using evidence in programmatic decision making
- Participate and contribute to the New Business Development (NBD) process, bringing insights from research by PSI/Mozambique and other relevant stakeholders
- Propose strategically valuable, appropriately budgeted research activities to be included in PSI/Mozambique proposals
Requisites
- At least 5-10 years of experience in the design, management, analysis, and dissemination of research in public health, including experience in a developing country (experience in East Africa preferred)
- Master’s degree in relevant field (MA, MPH, MSc), research background or equivalent experience in public health, behavioral sciences, population studies, psychology, communication, or a related field
- Ability to design and implement a wide range of quantitative and qualitative health research
- Advanced statistical analysis of health survey data and have strong multi-variate analysis skills (Stata preferred)
- Experience analyzing qualitative data (in Atlas TI, NVivo, or similar program)
- Demonstrated ability to inform programmatic decisions using research results
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Fluency or strong working knowledge of oral and written Portuguese and English
- Demonstrated ability to oversee quality of multiple current studies
- Working experience in market research (including behavioral segmentation), process evaluations, operational research, evaluations of communications effectiveness, mapping studies/GIS, and mobile health technologies
- Substantial experience with electronic data collection, designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems
- Familiar with MIS systems and processes (especially DHIS2)
- Experience in capacity building or training, especially structured long-term capacity building activities
