Blue Ventures is recruiting a Partner Support Coordinator (m/f), to be based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Description
  • We are currently recruiting a Partner Support Coordinator to support our evolving operations and partnerships in Mozambique. Reporting to the East Africa Regional Programmes Manager, this is a full time role, with regular travel to work closely with colleagues, partners, field teams and communities across the country, with occasional travel to other sites across East Africa
  • The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive and highly organised individual, with an excellent knowledge of the small-scale fisheries, marine conservation and rural development sectors. You will demonstrate a proven track record of project design and management, as well as exceptional written communications. Ideally, you will have experience of community-based conservation, co-management and development initiatives in Mozambique
  • You will have insight and experience in supporting organisations in developing governance capabilities in communities, with a particular focus on financial management. We are looking for an individual who is open to new ideas and embraces innovation, who can demonstrate experience of building effective working partnerships for conservation and/or development. Assessment of applications will include candidates’ alignment with BV’s core values and mission to support human rights-based approaches to marine conservation and fisheries management

  • Remuneration: Circa 2,300,000 annual
Duties
  • Manage partnerships in Mozambique, including development of MoUs, sub-grant agreements, and the management of funds including joint funding
  • Monitor partner performance to grant agreement requirements and work plans
  • Scope for new partnership opportunities, including those directly with community organisations such as CCPs
  • Identify and address gaps in our team and partner capacity, designing technical support plans and providing training as appropriate
  • Gather regular feedback from community partners to guide efforts to improve fisheries governance and management performance
  • Lead the development of harmonised tools, systems and work plans across all partnerships in Mozambique - ensuring consistency and alignment with those in the Outreach team and organisation
  • Facilitate the use of a common approach to developing fisheries management and governance capacity building in our partners through the development of training modules, best practice and monitoring tools
  • Evaluate and document key learnings, best practises and relevant fishery/country information, including broader learning around fisheries management
  • Lead on regular reporting to government entities
  • Support the UK team with operations and finance responsibilities
  • Line management of Blue Ventures’ Mozambique team
  • Work closely with Blue Ventures’ staff and partners in Mozambique to support local partners and community members in improving local fisheries management and governance practises, based on national systems
  • Support partners to integrate health activities into their projects as part of our Health-Environment approach to serving communities holistically
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen policies that encourage and sustain community action in co management, working with colleagues in the WIO and UK to advocate for policy development
  • Identify opportunities for and coordinate learning exchanges with partners and communities The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organisation such as Blue Ventures, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources team
Requisites
  • A citizen of Mozambique
  • Postgraduate or graduate degree and/or proven experience in relevant field (Environmental, Health, Marine or Conservation Science)
  • Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and English
  • Proven experience in project management
  • Demonstrable practical experience working in co-management and community based conservation or development in Mozambique
  • Proven experience in financial planning and control, and budget preparation and management
  • Experience of developing multi-sector partnerships, including with communities, fisheries authorities, and NGOs
  • Clear commitment to a community-based approach to conservation and development
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to give public presentations and deliver training
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • A strong team player who is also able to work independently
  • Knowledge of Google apps (and/or MS Office packages)
  • Excellent skills in communicating complex information to a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Previous international organization/ NGO experience
  • Capacity to undertake research and development work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong technical reporting skills and experience of preparing project reports for funders
