Description
- The U.S. Mission in Maputo/Mozambique is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Political Assistant (Political & Economic Assistant)
Duties
- The Political-Economic Assistant contributes to research, analysis, and reporting on political and economic developments in Mozambique in support of the Political-Economic (Pol-Econ) Section and in coordination with Political, Economic, and ESTH Specialists. Draws on a variety of sources as well as her/his own expertise and experience to provide insights, analysis, context, and background on political and economic issues through both written and verbal briefings
- The Pol-Econ Assistant will build a diverse contact network and support the Pol-Econ Counselor and other members of the Pol-Econ Section to develop and maintain their contacts to increase the embassy's ability to obtain information, convey U.S. policy priorities, implement programs, and influence Mozambican decision-makers, opinion-shapers, and the general public. The Pol-Econ Assistant will support the Mission's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) efforts through strategic outreach and contact building focused on marginalized or under-represented communities
- The Pol-Econ Assistant promotes U.S. priorities such as peace and security, economic reforms and inclusive economic development, good governance and transparency, and respect for human rights in cooperation with representatives of the host government, civil society, political parties, the private sector, other diplomatic missions, international organizations, academia, the media, Parliamentarians, other political and cultural figures, and other key communities and leaders, including marginalized or under-represented communities. Works with other Sections and Agencies to coordinate messaging and programming
- The Pol-Econ Assistant performs administrative and logistical tasks on behalf of the Pol-Econ Section, including but not limited to communicating with contacts and scheduling meetings; serving on grants committees and as a Grants Officer's Representative and coordinating assistance-related events and outreach; supporting official visits and trips, to include invitational travel; and supporting activities such as representational and outreach events. In coordination with Pol-Econ Section, the Pol-Econ Assistant incorporates DEIA considerations into all aspects of her/his work
