US Embassy is recruiting a Public Health Specialist - Senior Site Coordinator, to be based in Maputo.
Duties
- The incumbent, under the direct supervision and guidance of the CDC Care and Treatment Branch Chief, will work in a dynamic and innovative working environment as part of the Care and Treatment Branch to provide critical field supervision and oversight over the technical programs the CDC’s Care and Treatment Branch supports in 7 of Mozambique’s 11 Provinces. These areas include: HIV Care and Treatment (adult and pediatric), HIV/TB, Cervical Cancer, Community Clinical Linkages, Quality Improvement, Nutrition
- The incumbent will work closely with the Ministry of Health at national and provincial level, CDC’s numerous implementing partners, other branches of the CDC team and travel frequently to the Provinces to provide hands-on technical support to provincial, district and facility based staff. With an emphasis on Access, Quality and Retention in HIV Care and Treatment, the incumbent will contribute invaluably to the achievement of Mozambique’s ambitious goal of universal access and reversing the trend of the HIV epidemic in Mozambique
- Using innovative tablet based technology linked to an adaptive database, the incumbent will have comprehensive access to various sources of data that will allow him/her to triangulate information and, in real time, understand that data at the national, provincial, district and health facility levels in order to better inform the decision making process and support the national health system to improve outcomes for patients. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to initiate and participate in important operational research projects designed to produce new knowledge and help inform programmatic decision-making in Mozambique
Requisites
- M.D. or Ph.D. in Epidemiology or related medical field is required
- Seven or more years of related experience in HIV/AIDS or other medical care, epidemiology, infectious diseases or related scientific area is required
- Level IV (Fluency) in English is required; Level III (ability to communicate) in Portuguese is required. Ability to write professional documents and articles in English to submit for publication is required. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to make clear, convincing presentations, explain and justify recommendations; explain policies and programs of the agency and assigned program or project areas; provide guidance and advise program administrators and the community; respond to inquiries, and interact with high level officials and representatives from public and private organizations is required
- Knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of public health programs, especially in the area of HIV/AIDS and the ability to analyze, evaluate, and provide expert advice and consultation is required. Knowledge of the principles, methods, applications, and state-of-the-art technology in the area of HIV/AIDS care and treatment to provide direction and guidance on critical and complex issues is required
- Ability to perform complex analytical studies and interpret results to coordinate the evaluation of programs and recommend improvements is required. Advanced skill levels in use of data analysis software packages and excellent overall computer skills are required
